The holy town of Khatu is witnessing grand Janmashtami celebrations with immense devotion as millions of worshippers arrive to witness the birth anniversary of Baba Shyam, widely revered as an incarnation of Lord Krishna. Since the early morning Mangala Aarti, all fourteen entry lines of the temple premises have remained packed with eager followers.
Devotees have traveled from states such as Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Haryana, and Madhya Pradesh to offer their prayers. The entire town echoes with chants of “Hare Ka Sahara, Baba Shyam Hamara” and “Jai Shri Shyam,” creating a deeply spiritual atmosphere.
A Divine Darbar Adorned with Flowers and Leaves
On this auspicious occasion, Baba Shyam has been adorned with breathtaking and divine decorations. Fresh flowers in special shades of blue, white, and pink, sourced from various parts of the country, have been used to embellish the sanctuary. A unique highlight of this year is the artistic integration of natural green leaves alongside the blooms, capturing the admiration of everyone visiting.
Midnight Panchamrit Snan and Mahaprasad Distribution
According to Manvendra Singh Chauhan, the secretary of the Shri Shyam Mandir Committee, the temple premises will reverberate with devotional cheers and bells precisely at midnight to mark the birth of Lord Krishna.
- Panchamrit Abhishek: At midnight, Baba Shyam will be given a grand ceremonial bath using milk, curd, ghee, honey, and sugar.
- Original Form Darshan: Immediately following this special ritual, the deity will offer divine glimpses to devotees in his original form known as the Shaligram avatar.
- Mahaprasad Distribution: Once the grand Aarti concludes, Panjiri Mahaprasad will be distributed among all present devotees.

- Pilgrims from Haryana: Visitors from Jhajjar and nearby districts noted that they visit every year and found this year's floral styling to be the most extraordinary. Several families also arrived to offer the traditional Sawamani bhog.
- Worshippers from Madhya Pradesh: Families traveling from Chhatrapur expressed that they came to seek blessings, praising the temple committee for maintaining smooth management despite the massive crowds so that no one faces difficulty.
Who Is Baba Shyam and What Is the Legend of Sheesh Dani?
Popularly known in the current era as the refuge of the defeated, Baba Shyam is none other than Barbarika, the valiant warrior of the Mahabharata era and grandson of Bhima. During the great war, when Barbarika set out to support the Kaurava side, Lord Krishna disguised himself as a Brahmin and asked him to donate his head in charity. Barbarika willingly severed and offered his head without a moment's hesitation. Delighted by this supreme sacrifice, Krishna granted him the boon that in the Kali Yuga, he would be worshipped under the name Shyam and would forever remain the ultimate support for anyone facing defeat.
