Situated in the Sikar district of Rajasthan, the holy shrine of Khatu Shyam Ji has evolved into a monumental center of faith across India and the globe. Everyday, tens of thousands and even lakhs of devotees travel long distances to pay homage to Baba Shyam. Across numerous towns and cities, devotional musical nights, continuous kirtans, and vibrant night vigils take place regularly, with renowned vocalists singing hymns that echo through countless homes. Yet, long before this contemporary prominence took root, the spiritual devotion that now touches millions was championed across remote villages and towns by Bhakt Shiromani Aalu Singh Maharaj, an ardent follower whose dedicated mission introduced Baba Shyam's glory to the masses.
Pioneering the Devotional Movement Beyond Khatu
Within the spiritual traditions of Khatu Shyam Ji, Aalu Singh Maharaj holds an exceptional and deeply revered standing. During an era when the shrine had not yet attained its present nationwide fame, he took it upon himself to travel, sing praises, and connect everyday people with the grace of Baba Shyam. His untiring efforts through musical gatherings and spiritual discourse earned him the reputation of being an exceptionally intimate and beloved disciple of the deity. Even today, the ceremonial morning and evening prayers at the main temple in Khatu respectfully acknowledge his devotional legacy, and several customs established during his lifetime remain integral to the daily life of the pilgrimage center.
The Sacred Legacy of Shyam Bagichi
The spiritual journey of Aalu Singh Maharaj was intrinsically intertwined with the peaceful grounds of Shyam Bagichi. According to Mohandas Maharaj, it was from this sanctified spot that Aalu Singh Maharaj sustained and expanded the core traditions of devotional singing and service. Following his passing, a dedicated memorial temple was constructed in his honor within Shyam Bagichi. Daily liturgical rituals continue to be performed at this shrine. Pilgrims arriving in Khatu make it a point to visit Shyam Bagichi after worshipping at the primary sanctum, often spending hours meditating and chanting prayers inside Aalu Singh Maharaj's memorial. The lineage of service continues uninterrupted, with Mohandas Maharaj steering the sacred rituals, while Jitendra Singh Chauhan and Shyam Singh Chauhan remain actively engaged in devotional services at the main temple.
Two-Day Gathering Marks the 37th Death Anniversary
Commemorating his enduring impact, a special two-day congregation has been organized at Shyam Bagichi on the occasion of the 37th death anniversary of Bhakt Shiromani Aalu Singh Maharaj. As part of these sacred observances, a massive community feast is scheduled to commence at 12:00 PM on October 2. The entire Shyam Bagichi complex has been decorated with vibrant portraits of the divine and elaborate floral arrangements. The ornately garlanded altar of Aalu Singh Maharaj has become the central focal point for incoming visitors. Taking place under the spiritual guidance of Maharaj Mohandas Singh Chauhan, the commemorative assembly is drawing substantial crowds of pilgrims from different regions across the country.
