A gruesome case has emerged from Rajasthan's Jhunjhunu district, where a man allegedly murdered his wife and hid her body inside a wooden trunk kept at their home in Agwana Khurd village, under the jurisdiction of Surajgarh police station. The matter came to light on Tuesday, sending shockwaves through the village as Surajgarh police rushed to the spot.
Body recovered from trunk after police were tipped off
According to Surajgarh station house officer Ramsingh Yadav, police received information that a woman's body was hidden inside a trunk at the house of Krishna Kumar Jat, a resident of Agwana Khurd. Acting on the tip, a police team reached the spot without delay and had the trunk opened. Inside, they found the body of a woman, later identified as the accused's wife, Sulochana Fogat. Once the body was recovered, police took it into custody, began the process of sending it for a post mortem, and immediately detained the husband, Krishna Kumar Jat, for questioning.
Body appeared two to three days old, hands found tied
Preliminary investigation at the scene suggested the body was around two to three days old, meaning the killing had taken place days before the case surfaced on Tuesday. Investigators also found that both of Sulochana Fogat's hands were tied, underscoring the brutality of the crime. Police carefully examined the spot and collected the necessary evidence. A team from the FSL, the Forensic Science Laboratory, was also called in to gather technical evidence from the scene in order to build a clearer picture of how the murder was carried out.
Dispute over money for alcohol triggered the killing
Questioning revealed that the accused, Krishna Kumar Jat, and the victim, Sulochana Fogat, had married in 2009, meaning the couple had been married for roughly 15 years. Police said that just before the incident, an argument broke out between the husband and wife over money for alcohol. It is alleged that Krishna Kumar demanded money from Sulochana to buy liquor, but she refused to hand it over. The refusal escalated into a quarrel, during which Krishna Kumar allegedly killed his wife. Instead of disposing of the body elsewhere, the accused hid it inside the trunk at their own home, which is why the crime went undetected for three days.
Body sent for post mortem, probe underway from every angle
The body has been sent to the mortuary at Surajgarh's Community Health Centre, or CHC, where a medical board will conduct the post mortem. The official cause of death will only be confirmed once the post mortem report is out. SHO Ramsingh Yadav said the case is being investigated from every angle, and further legal action will be decided based on the post mortem report, evidence gathered by the FSL team, and information obtained during the husband's interrogation. The accused remains in police custody and is being questioned continuously.
Fear and shock grip the village
News of the killing spread quickly, plunging Agwana Khurd village into an atmosphere of fear and mourning. Large numbers of villagers gathered at the spot as word got around, discussing the disturbing incident among themselves. Police are pursuing a thorough investigation to establish the exact motive and sequence of events behind the killing.
