In Rajasthan's Sirohi district, a family has spent a second straight day without food outside the Collectorate's main gate, facing the employment office, refusing to eat until they see justice for a murder that happened 75 days ago, and the protest has now become the talk of the entire district. The victim, Chintu Singh alias Narendra Singh of Posaliya village, was killed in a case where the main accused and a total of 9 accused persons remain at large, and that failure has pushed his relatives onto the streets in protest.
A paralyzed mother and nephew, both on hunger strike
The most heartbreaking part of this protest is that the 70-year-old mother leading the hunger strike is herself a paralysis patient, and so is her nephew sitting beside her. Their bodies are not cooperating, yet both have given up food in the hope that this is the only way left to finally force the administration into action. The family has made clear that the agitation will not end until every absconding accused is behind bars.
Investigation with Shivganj CO, but arrests still elusive after 75 days
The murder case is registered at Shivganj police station, and the investigation is being led by Shivganj Circle Officer Pushpendra Verma. Once the family's protest began, the police machinery also swung into action, forming separate teams to track down the absconding accused and claiming that raids are continuing. Even so, the fact that not a single arrest has been made in 75 days remains the biggest reason behind the family's anger.
Talks fail, family says assurances alone are not enough
Administration and police officials visited the protest site and held several rounds of talks trying to persuade the family to call off the strike, but no agreement was reached. The family's stance is unambiguous, they do not want empty promises, only concrete arrests of the accused. Amid this standoff, the victim's mother broke down while speaking to those gathered. She said, "If I lose my life while fighting for justice for my son, I don't care."
Anger was equally visible on the faces of the victim's three sisters. One of them said sharply, "If the police cannot arrest the accused, then let us do it, we have the strength to deal with them ourselves." These emotional, angry statements from the family have pushed the demand for justice further into the spotlight, and all eyes are now on the next police action, on when the absconding main accused and the others will finally be arrested.
A day earlier, a tragedy in Karauli
Just a day before this protest began, a disturbing case emerged from Rajasthan's Karauli district, where four members of a single family consumed poison together. The parents and their elder son died in the incident, while the younger son is undergoing treatment in serious condition at SMS Hospital in Jaipur.
