Major political outfits are locked in intense negotiations, particularly in cities like Ajmer, Alwar, Pali, and Bharatpur, to secure the numbers needed to claim the chair.
Bikaner Sees Intra-Party Revolt Despite Majority
Among the ten municipal corporations in the state, Bikaner is the sole corporation where Congress secured a clear majority. However, the nomination process exposed internal friction within the party ranks. While Anil kalla filed his nomination as the official mayoral candidate, party councillor Navratna Daga also entered the fray as an independent contender. This unexpected development has left the party facing the uphill task of keeping its flock together and preventing cross-voting during the final election.
Strategic Maneuvering in Ajmer and Alwar
In the Ajmer municipal corporation, neither of the main parties managed to cross the majority mark, prompting frantic efforts to court independent members. Congress shifted its councillors to Bengaluru in an attempt to insulate them from poaching, while the opposing camp is actively strategizing to gather the required numbers. Meanwhile, the contest in Alwar has grown complicated after councillor Rinkel Garg filed papers as an independent candidate, adding to the ruling party's worries as both factions scramble to secure unaligned members.
The Equations in Bharatpur and Pali
Bharatpur presents a unique electoral arithmetic where the total count of independent councillors outnumbers the representatives of the major political parties combined, making their role decisive for the mayoral outcome. In Pali, the nomination phase was marred by physical confrontation. Laxman Bhati, the brother of MLA Bhimraj Bhati, was reportedly assaulted while returning after depositing election symbols for the mayoral candidate, further escalating local political tensions.
