The results for the municipal elections held across 10,167 wards in 309 urban bodies of Rajasthan are being declared today. The counting of votes commenced at 8 AM, and most of the final outcomes are expected to be clear by the afternoon. These election results will determine the political fate of a total of 38,889 candidates. Regarding the voting schedule, the first phase took place on September 9 covering 162 urban bodies, while the second phase was conducted on September 11 with voting in 147 urban bodies.
Voter Turnout and Political Significance
During the first phase across 162 bodies, a voter turnout of 76.41 percent was recorded, whereas the second phase across 147 bodies saw 71.69 percent of voters casting their ballots. Combined across both phases, the overall voter turnout in the state stood at 74.05 percent. This election is widely viewed by political observers as a crucial political semifinal ahead of the upcoming assembly elections in 2028. As the results are announced, a flurry of political maneuvering, bargaining, and strategy-making will immediately kick off to secure the posts of mayors, municipal presidents, and chairpersons. Voting for these specific leadership positions is scheduled to be held on September 21.
Counting Center in Jaipur and Strict Security Measures
The vote counting for the Jaipur Municipal Corporation elections has been arranged at Bhawani Niketan College. To maintain law and order effectively, the administration has imposed a strict ban on victory processions on the day of counting. Winning candidates will be required to collect their certificates and celebrate quietly at home with their supporters. The administration believes that victory processions often provide an opportunity for anti-social elements to raise provocative slogans and disrupt peace in the area.
Adjustments Due to Ganesh Festival
In view of the Ganesh Chaturthi festival, partial modifications have been made to the counting arrangements for September 14. The State Election Commission has put robust security arrangements in place at all counting centers across the state. Police forces along with stationed magistrates will remain deployed at these venues. State Election Commissioner Rajeshwar Singh has issued strict directives to officials to ensure that the entire counting process is conducted in a peaceful and time-bound manner. Vote counting for all 309 bodies is taking place simultaneously, after which the process of forming urban local governments will proceed further.
