Child Loses Balance and Falls Into Farm Water Tank
Sunday became a day of heartbreak for the people of Bano Ki Beri Dudh village in the Sadar Thana area of Barmer district, Rajasthan. A young boy who had been playing near a farm field suddenly lost his footing and tumbled into a diggi, a water storage tank built on agricultural land nearby. The tank held deep water, and the child did not know how to swim.
Mother Jumps In Without a Moment's Hesitation
The instant the child's mother saw her son fall in, she did not pause. Without any thought for her own safety, she leapt straight into the diggi in a desperate attempt to pull him out. But the depth of the water was too much for her as well. Since she could not swim, she too became trapped in the deep water, and despite her frantic efforts, neither she nor the child could make it back to the surface.
Rescue Teams Struggle for Close to Three Hours
News of the accident spread rapidly through the village, drawing a large number of residents to the site who began trying to help. The Sadar police station team and a Civil Defence unit were notified and arrived at the scene quickly. A rescue operation was launched with assistance from local villagers, but the considerable depth of the tank and the large volume of water inside created serious obstacles for the rescuers. After nearly three hours of continuous effort, the bodies of both the mother and her son were finally retrieved from the diggi.
Bodies Sent to Dhorimanna Hospital for Post-Mortem
The two victims were immediately taken to a hospital, where doctors declared both of them dead. Their bodies were subsequently moved to the mortuary at Dhorimanna Hospital, where post-mortem examinations will be conducted.
An Entire Village Plunged Into Grief
The incident has cast a shadow of sorrow over the whole village. The family of the deceased is overwhelmed with grief, while other villagers are visibly shaken by what has happened. Many residents have observed that the mother gave everything she had in her last moments trying to save her child, yet fate would not allow either of them to survive. Police have registered a case and formally launched an investigation into the deaths.
