Rajasthan is currently witnessing robust pre-monsoon activities, driven by a series of new weather systems forming over the region. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reports that these consecutive systems are causing widespread cloud cover and intermittent rainfall across various parts of the state. On Thursday, a fresh weather system became active, leading to significant rainfall accompanied by strong winds in several districts, including Jaipur, Udaipur, Churu, Sri Ganganagar, Alwar, and Sikar.
This recent spell of weather change has provided much-needed respite from the intense heat, with temperatures now consistently falling below the 40 degrees Celsius mark throughout Rajasthan. The cooling effect has been a welcome relief for residents who have been enduring severe summer conditions.
Heavy Downpour and Waterlogging in Northern Areas
The impact of the newest weather system was particularly pronounced in northern Rajasthan, especially in Sri Ganganagar. The area experienced sudden, heavy rains that resulted in rapid waterlogging in low-lying sectors. This led to water entering market shops, causing considerable disruption and inconvenience for local businesses and residents. Over the past twenty-four hours, light to moderate rainfall was also recorded in Udaipur, Chittorgarh, Pratapgarh, Karauli, and their adjacent localities. While the increased atmospheric moisture post-rain initially created a humid environment, subsequent rain showers have made the overall weather much more pleasant.
IMD Issues Alert Until June 21 for 29 Districts
In response to the active weather patterns, the IMD has issued a significant alert spanning the next three days, effective until June 21. Meteorological scientists anticipate that this new system will maintain its influence across the entire state, likely triggering strong dust storms and thundershowers in the southern and northeastern regions. The department has specifically warned approximately 29 districts about the potential for dust storms and severe weather. During this period, gusty winds are projected to reach speeds of 40 to 50 kilometers per hour, with a possibility of lightning strikes in certain areas. Residents are advised to exercise caution and remain vigilant.
Monsoon Expected to Arrive After June 25
The IMD Jaipur center indicates that these pre-monsoon activities are set to gain further momentum in the coming days. The meteorological department forecasts that the official entry of the monsoon into Rajasthan is likely to occur after June 25. This prediction is based on the entirely favorable conditions currently developing for the monsoon's advancement. The continuous influx of moist winds from both the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal is steadily increasing atmospheric moisture levels across the state. This sustained moisture is expected to bring a substantial drop in temperatures to the remaining parts of Rajasthan, offering comprehensive relief from the intense heat.
Weather Observations in Bhilwara and Ajmer Divisions
Districts within the Bhilwara and Ajmer divisions are also experiencing persistent cloud cover. Bhilwara witnessed strong thunderstorms accompanied by dusty winds, which led to its maximum temperature dropping by 3.4 degrees below normal, settling at 36.8 degrees Celsius. The morning humidity in Bhilwara was notably high at 83 percent, indicating significant moisture in the air. Meanwhile, Ajmer recorded a maximum temperature of 37.8 degrees Celsius, which is approximately 1 degree lower than its usual average. Although Ajmer did not experience heavy rainfall directly, high humidity levels, reported at 67 percent in the morning and 42 percent in the evening, subjected residents to muggy and sweaty conditions.
Continued Yellow Alert and Safety Advisory
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has maintained its Yellow Alert for several districts in Rajasthan for the upcoming two days, warning of storms. This alert specifies that eastern and western parts of the state could face strong winds ranging from 40 to 50 kilometers per hour, alongside a risk of lightning. The weather department has advised the general public against seeking shelter under trees or structures that appear weak during adverse weather conditions. According to the IMD, the intermittent rainfall expected in the coming days is likely to contribute to a further decrease in temperatures, ultimately providing sustained relief from the severe heat wave gripping the state.
