A major administrative shift is taking place in Rajasthan’s government job recruitment landscape. In a bid to restore trust and bring strict discipline to the state's examination process, the government has handed over the leadership of its two premier recruitment boards to retired military officers. While Retired Major General Alok Raj is already leading the Rajasthan Staff Selection Board, Lieutenant Colonel Kesari Singh has now taken charge of the Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC) as its acting chairman. This double-military leadership is seen as a major move to streamline processes for millions of aspirants.
Structural Changes and New Members at RPSC
Alongside the appointment of Lieutenant Colonel Kesari Singh as the acting chief, the state government has also inducted two new members into the commission. Professor Santosh Anand and Dr. Deepak Kumar Sharma have been officially appointed to the RPSC. Professor Anand has previously served as the Principal of MLV College in Bhilwara and held the position of Chittor province president of Vidya Bharati. On the other hand, Dr. Sharma has been active as the state organizing secretary and former state president of the Akhil Bharatiya Rashtriya Shaikshik Mahasangh.
A Strategic Response to Curb Paper Leaks
The recruitment system in Rajasthan was heavily impacted by a series of paper leaks under the previous Congress administration, damaging the government's credibility just before the assembly elections. To counter this crisis and send a strong message of accountability, the administration decided to bring in military disciplinarians. The goal was to dismantle exam mafias and ensure absolute transparency. As part of this strategy, Retired Major General Alok Raj was appointed as the Chairman of the Rajasthan Staff Selection Board in August 2023. Shortly after, in October 2023, Lieutenant Colonel Kesari Singh was inducted as an RPSC member. Both high-profile appointments were executed right before the state went to the polls.
Track Record and Future Performance Goals
Under the leadership of Retired Major General Alok Raj, the Rajasthan Staff Selection Board has managed a massive schedule, successfully organizing 130 examinations over a two-year tenure. Now, all eyes are on the RPSC, where Lieutenant Colonel Kesari Singh has stepped into his new leadership role as acting chairman.
Opportunities and Crucial Challenges for Kesari Singh
This new assignment is a major test for Lieutenant Colonel Kesari Singh. If he manages to conduct exams on time, improve organizational transparency, and introduce progressive reforms, it could pave the way for his appointment as the permanent chairman. His tenure as a member of the commission runs until 2029, meaning a permanent chairmanship could allow him to lead the body for approximately three years. However, his journey has had its share of hurdles. His initial appointment as an RPSC member faced scrutiny and sparked political debates. His stint as the acting chief will now serve as the ultimate response to his critics.
