Electricity consumers across Rajasthan have received a major relief ahead of the Diwali festival as a closed unit of the Kalisindh thermal power plant, located in the Jhalrapatan area of Jhalawar district, has officially resumed operations after a gap of two months. The restart of power generation from this unit right before Diwali has paved the way for an additional 600 megawatts of electricity supply to the state. This timely revival is expected to significantly strengthen the power distribution network across the region during the peak festive period when energy demands traditionally skyrocket.
The Steam Line Blast And Two-Month Shutdown
Operations at the facility had come to a halt approximately two months ago when a sudden blast occurred in the steam line of the first unit at the Kalisindh thermal power plant. This unexpected technical malfunction forced authorities to shut down the machinery immediately. Subsequently, the downtime was utilized to carry out comprehensive annual maintenance and necessary engineering repairs. For weeks, anticipation had been building regarding the reactivation of the stalled infrastructure. Following the successful resolution of all technical bottlenecks and completion of critical upkeep, the unit was brought back online just one day prior to Diwali.
Both Units Operating At Full Capacity
The Kalisindh facility houses two massive generating units, each boasting a capacity of 600 megawatts, bringing the plant's total combined generation potential to 1,200 megawatts. Ever since the first unit suffered its mechanical failure, plant operators had been forced to rely solely on the second unit to maintain continuous power generation. Consequently, the facility was operating well below its maximum potential, failing to utilize its full infrastructure capability. With the first unit now fully restored and functioning alongside the second, electricity production from both operational arms has normalized completely.
Easing Power Demands During The Festive Season
Given the surging demand for electricity throughout the festive season, the return of the dormant Kalisindh unit is being hailed as a crucial development for the state. During Diwali celebrations, consumption spikes dramatically across residential neighborhoods, bustling commercial markets, and industrial corridors alike. The infusion of an extra 600 megawatts provides a vital cushion to the state's electricity grid. Authorities are optimistic that the simultaneous functioning of both units will successfully mitigate any risks of power shortages during the festivities, ensuring that consumers enjoy reliable and uninterrupted power supply.
