The Rajasthan High Court has taken a stern stance regarding the dilapidated condition of its newly constructed premises in Jodhpur. Expressing grave concern over structural vulnerabilities and potential safety hazards, a double bench of the high court initiated suo motu proceedings to address the matter. The sharp judicial stance has caused significant ripples throughout the state administration, as the court moved quickly to fix accountability at the highest bureaucratic levels.
Safety Concerns for Lawyers and Litigants
Prioritizing the physical safety of legal professionals, litigants, judicial staff, and daily visitors, the bench treated the structural failure as an urgent issue. Recognizing the severe risks posed by the crumbling infrastructure, the court issued personal summons to the Chief Secretary, the Director General of Police (DGP), and heads of the Public Works Department (PWD) alongside other allied administrative wings. The decisive intervention prompted immediate movements within state official circles.
Top Bureaucrats and Police Officials Appear Before Bench
Following the strict court orders, top administrative and law enforcement figures rushed to Jodhpur to present themselves before the bench. Additional Chief Secretary Praveen Gupta appeared in person during the proceedings. Simultaneously, Director General of Police (Special Operations) Anand Srivastava was present in court. Representatives from the Public Works Department, including Chief Engineer Mukesh Bhati, Satyendra Kumar, and Kaushalendra Kumar, also stood before the bench to explain the situation.
RSRDC and Construction Quality Under Scrutiny
The bench raised critical questions regarding how a flagship building constructed at the cost of crores of rupees could deteriorate so rapidly. Officials from the Rajasthan State Road Development Corporation (RSRDC) were called to clarify execution flaws. Executive Managing Director Anil Vijayvargiya and Additional Chief Engineer DK Gupta attended the session on behalf of the corporation. The court sought detailed facts to pinpoint specific engineering failures and structural defects in the construction.
Focus on Compliance Report and Safety Measures
During the session, the participating departments briefed the court on immediate remedial steps and interim measures implemented to secure the site. The High Court remains focused on ensuring that long-term safety protocols are enacted to prevent any untoward incidents. All eyes are now on the forthcoming compliance report to be submitted by the state administration, based on which the court will issue further binding directives.
