A distressing incident from Tain village in the Bisaou tehsil of Rajasthan's Jhunjhunu district has exposed tall administrative claims regarding infrastructure and drainage. Severe waterlogging and knee-deep mud on the primary route leading to the cremation ground forced grieving family members to transport a deceased woman's body in a tractor-trolley rather than carrying it on their shoulders. The incident has triggered massive anger among local residents against the local administration and elected representatives.
A Painful and Inhumane Journey to the Cremation Ground
Sonia, wife of Devkaran Swami and a resident of Tain village, had passed away. Following her demise, family members, relatives, and fellow villagers gathered in a sombre mood to take the funeral procession toward the cremation ground. However, the main pathway was flooded with dirty water and thick mud, making it entirely impossible to walk on foot. Left with no alternative in this grim situation, the villagers reluctantly placed the body onto a tractor-trolley. They navigated through the waterlogged and muddy stretch using the vehicle to finally reach the cremation ground and complete the final rites.
A Years-Old Problem Caused by Poor Drainage
According to the villagers, the issue of waterlogging along the cremation route is not a recent development but has persisted for several years. Due to the complete absence of a proper drainage system in the village, wastewater from households and rainwater accumulate directly on the main road. This makes walking nearly impossible and turns driving vehicles across the stretch extremely hazardous. Local residents have repeatedly submitted written and oral complaints to authorities ranging from the gram panchayat to senior officials, yet no permanent solution has materialized so far.
No Change on the Ground Months After Collector's Assurance
Frustrated by continuous administrative neglect, a group of villagers had met the district collector on June 9. At that time, the district collector took cognizance of the grievance and assured the residents that a permanent solution to the drainage and pathway issue would be implemented within 15 days. More than two months have passed since that assurance, but conditions on the ground remain entirely unchanged. The villagers have once again demanded that the administration immediately clear the water and filth from the cremation route so that no other family is forced to endure such dehumanizing hardships during the final journey of a loved one.
