A tragic incident has been reported from the Bagra police station jurisdiction in Rajasthan's Jalore district, where a mother left her six-month-old infant beneath the shade of a neem tree before leaping in front of an oncoming passenger train. The woman sustained severe, fatal injuries upon being struck by the train and died on the spot. Fortunately, the infant was discovered completely unhurt, seated at a safe distance away from the railway lines. The incident unfolded during afternoon hours between Bagra and Jagnath railway stations.
Departure Under the Pretext of Medical Care
According to available details, Bhavna, a resident of Bhagli Singhlan village and wife of Dungaram Meghwal, had been dealing with poor health. On the morning of the incident, she told her family members that she was taking her six-month-old son, Aryan, along with her to a nearby hospital for a medical check-up and treatment. Her relatives had no inkling that she was contemplating ending her life rather than seeking medical help. After leaving home, she walked directly towards the railway tracks.
Infant Kept in Tree Shade Before Fatal Leap
Upon arriving at a stretch between Bagra and Jagnath railway stations, Bhavna decided not to keep her child beside her on the tracks. Instead, she placed little Aryan safely under the shade of a neem tree located at a distance from the railway line. She then stepped onto the track directly in front of an approaching passenger train travelling from Sabarmati towards Jodhpur. The collision inflicted devastating trauma across her head, limbs, and torso, claiming her life immediately.
Police Response and Recovery of the Body
Local residents and railway personnel in the immediate vicinity soon noticed the accident. Nearby, the six-month-old baby boy was found sitting unharmed in the shade of the tree. Railway staff alerted the local police, prompting officers to rush to the location. Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Mangilal stated that the woman's body was transported by train to Jagnath railway station. There, railway staff handed over custody to the Kotwali police, who subsequently transferred the mortal remains to the mortuary at the General Hospital in Jalore while informing her family members.
Probing Matrimonial Disputes and Customary Marriage Allegations
Preliminary inquiries have uncovered troubling aspects concerning the woman's domestic life. Reports indicate that friction had been brewing between Bhavna, her husband, and her in-laws. Her marriage had been conducted in accordance with the customary Aata-Saata arrangement. Allegations have also emerged suggesting she faced physical abuse from her husband, and that she had previously telephoned her brother to disclose domestic fighting and assaults. While authorities have not officially confirmed these domestic allegations, police are reviewing family statements, mobile communications, and dispute backgrounds to ascertain the precise motive. The body will be handed over to relatives following the post-mortem examination.
