The agitation by farmers in Ghadsana, located in the Shrikanganagar district of Rajasthan, continues to intensify over the core demand for eight turns of irrigation water. Farmers and local Congress workers had planned to register their strong protest during the Chief Minister's scheduled event in Suratgarh. In line with this strategy, a large contingent of Congress workers and farmers, led by MLA Shimla Nayak, departed toward Suratgarh in vehicles. However, anticipating the movement of the protestors, the local police administration had already reinforced security arrangements along the route. Police set up a heavy barricade near the Ghaggar bridge on the Anupgarh-Suratgarh highway and deployed a massive force. Barricades were installed on both sides of the bridge, and numerous police personnel were stationed to keep a strict watch on all vehicles and individuals heading toward Suratgarh.
When the convoy carrying MLA Shimla Nayak, Congress workers, and farmers reached the Ghaggar bridge, the police halted them from moving forward. A prolonged round of discussions and arguments ensued between the protestors and the police officials at the site. The situation flared up when several protestors attempted to breach the barricades and push past the police blockade. A scuffle broke out between the farmers, Congress workers, and the police force during this push, creating a tense atmosphere. Taking control of the situation, the police successfully prevented the demonstrators from advancing further. Following this intervention, the police detained MLA Shimla Nayak along with numerous Congress workers and participating farmers. All of them were shifted to the Jat Dharamshala, where they have been kept under police watch. Heavy security has been deployed at the Jat Dharamshala, with Deputy Superintendent of Police Jai Prakash Beniwal and several other police officials present at the location alongside a large number of personnel.
Administrative Officials Deployed on Site
In view of the escalating protest, senior administrative officials were also present at the location to manage the situation. Tehsildar Rajveer Kadwasra, SDM Kaushalya Bishnoi, and ADM Ashok Sangwa are closely monitoring developments on the ground. Additional security measures have been implemented by the police and administrative machinery to preserve law and order throughout the area. The agitating farmers state that their primary demand is the allocation of eight turns of irrigation water for their fields. Driven by this unresolved issue, the farmers have been staging a sit-in protest for the past 18 days. The protestors allege that the government has failed to provide any expected solution or relief regarding their rightful demand so far. Consequently, the farmers decided to reach the Chief Minister's event in Suratgarh to voice their discontent directly.
Detained Protesters Shifted to Jat Dharamshala
The farmers and Congress workers maintained that they only wanted to place their grievances and problems directly before the Chief Minister. During the planned demonstration, they also intended to show black flags as a mark of opposition. However, much before they could reach Suratgarh, the police blocked their path by setting up a blockade at the Ghaggar bridge. The confrontation between the police and the protestors created a tense atmosphere on the Anupgarh-Suratgarh highway for a considerable duration. The police utilized barricades to halt the crowd and managed to bring the situation under control. At present, MLA Shimla Nayak and all other detained Congress workers and protestors are being held at the Jat Dharamshala. Police and administrative officials are keeping a close watch on the entire situation, while additional police forces remain deployed across the region to ensure peace and order.
