The trajectory of Rafiq Ahmad stands out because generations of his family had never seen a government employee before him, making him the first in his lineage to achieve this milestone. Moreover, a large number of students taught by him are currently serving in major and prestigious positions across the country. What makes his story even more remarkable is that Rafiq Ahmad had not even laid eyes on a school until he was seven years old. One day, while playing in his neighborhood, someone told him about a local teacher who offered free tutoring. That moment marked a major turning point in his life, after which he consistently topped his exams and cleared the NET exam on his very first attempt to become an assistant professor. Reflecting on his journey, the acting principal of the government college in Karauli notes that he did not follow a pre-planned blueprint, but simply kept making sincere efforts and moving forward.
Growing up without an academic atmosphere at home, Rafiq Ahmad shares that his parents were uneducated. When he was seven years old, someone playing in the neighborhood mentioned that a teacher named Radhe Ji offered free coaching classes. Upon hearing this, he decided to attend the classes. After a few days of learning, the teacher was deeply impressed by him and advised his parents to ensure he received a proper education. Encouraged by this, his family enrolled him directly into the fourth grade at a school. From then on, he continued studying consistently, securing high marks in every class and frequently topping his examinations, which further increased the encouragement from neighbors for his family to support his education.
Rafiq Ahmad completed his Bachelor of Science degree from Karauli College in 1988, securing the second position in his class. Following this, he pursued a Master of Science degree in Mathematics from the University of Rajasthan and stood first in the university. He then became eligible for the NET examination and succeeded on his very first attempt, paving the way for his career as an assistant professor.
Due to weak financial conditions at home, he also tutored children to support his family while waiting for the final results of his NET exam. Eventually, in 1995, following the release of the final results, he was selected as an assistant professor in college education on his very first try. His initial posting was in Dholpur, where he served for approximately 11 years. Later, in August 2007, he was transferred to Karauli, where he currently serves as the acting principal of the government college.
Professor Rafiq Ahmad remains the first government employee in his extended family. He recalls that his father had studied only up to the third or fourth grade and worked as a tailor by profession. Despite the financial constraints, his parents worked hard to educate him based on the urging of their neighbors. He points out that no one in his previous generations had pursued education extensively. However, following his success, his younger siblings also pursued education, and his children have completed degrees in MSc, BEd, and engineering, though none have entered government service yet.
With a career spanning 31 years as a professor, he has spent 19 years teaching mathematics at Karauli College. Because of his regular and dedicated classroom teaching, a large number of his former students now hold prominent positions in various esteemed services across the nation. Notably, two of the female students he previously taught are now serving alongside him as assistant professors at the same government college in Karauli.
Offering a message to the youth, Professor Rafiq Ahmad emphasizes that regardless of one's current circumstances, the path to progress is never permanently blocked. If an individual possesses the courage and perseverance to accomplish something, they will inevitably overcome the hurdles along the way. The most crucial step is to make a firm resolve, as no destination can be reached without determination.
