Six juvenile inmates lodged at the Bal Sampreshan Griha, a juvenile observation home located in the Sadar police station area of Bikaner city, escaped by jumping off the building's roof. The moment the escape came to light, it triggered alarm within the police department, and the Sadar police station registered a case and launched a search for the missing boys.
Jumped off the roof, raised questions over security
According to initial information, the six juvenile delinquents lodged at the facility spotted an opportunity, climbed up to the roof and leapt off it, scaling the compound wall before fleeing the premises altogether. The episode has cast serious doubt on the vigilance of the staff on duty and the overall security arrangements at the observation home. Police are now trying to establish exactly how the boys managed to reach the roof in the first place, and at what point the monitoring system failed so badly that six inmates could slip out undetected.
Three of the six turn out to be adults, deepening the case
During the course of the investigation it emerged that three of the six escapees are actually over 18 years of age, a revelation that has made the matter considerably more serious. Police are working to confirm the identities of all six absconders and to trace their likely hideouts. Teams have already begun searching their homes as well as other locations where the fugitives might have gone or people they could be in contact with.
Case also filed against two security guards
Along with the six escaped inmates, a case has also been registered against two security guards who were on duty at the observation home. Police are examining whether there was any negligence in how the guards discharged their duty, or whether some other lapse allowed the breakout to happen. Officers have said that further action will depend on what the investigation uncovers. Multiple teams from Sadar police station are currently combing the surrounding areas in search of the six fugitives, while also mapping out possible escape routes and contacts they might use. A review of the observation home's entire security setup is also expected in the wake of the incident. For now, the police's focus remains squarely on tracking down the six missing juveniles and identifying exactly where the security arrangements broke down. The investigation is ongoing.
