The Jodhpur Division of the North Western Railway executed a widespread enforcement drive against ticketless and irregular travel on August 25, yielding significant operational results. During this single-day surprise inspection, railway authorities registered a total of 807 violation cases across the division, realizing a total penalty collection of Rs 5,27,724. Comparative metrics from the previous year highlight a major surge in enforcement efficacy, with the total number of detected cases rising by 32 percent and overall division revenue jumping by 105 percent. The unexpected nature of the checks created widespread panic among unauthorized passengers across key train routes and station premises.
Degana Railway Station Serves as the Central Operational Base
Operational strategy for the mega inspection drive was centered around Degana Railway Station, which functioned as the primary hub for checkposts and monitoring. Inspections carried out at Degana alone uncovered 424 infringement cases, generating Rs 2,66,200 in revenue collections for the railway administration. A granular breakdown of the statistics reveals that 420 of these cases pertained directly to passengers traveling without a valid ticket or with irregular documentation. Furthermore, enforcement personnel clamped down on general railway code violations by apprehending 2 individuals for smoking in public railway areas and penalizing 2 unauthorized vendors operating without valid permits. This comprehensive approach underscored the railway's dual focus on fare enforcement and overall station order.
Specialized Task Force of 30 TTEs and 7 RPF Personnel Deployed
To ensure maximum coverage and strict compliance, a dedicated task force comprising commercial checking personnel and railway security forces was mobilized. Functioning under the directives of Divisional Railway Manager Anurag Tripathi, the field operations were spearheaded by Assistant Commercial Manager B.K. Gaur. The deployed squad included 30 Traveling Ticket Examiners (TTEs) alongside 7 Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel. Senior DCM Hitesh Yadav elaborated that the team conducted sudden, coordinated inspections on board moving passenger trains as well as along station platforms. The continuous presence of ticket checkers and security officers aimed to deter unauthorized boarding and reinforce the mandate of purchasing valid travel passes.
105 Percent Surge in Revenue Accompanied by Awareness Strategy
The collection of Rs 5.27 lakh from 807 recorded cases on August 25 represents a substantial financial boost for the division. The impressive 105 percent increase in revenue compared to the previous year underscores the long-term effectiveness of routine and unexpected checking drives in encouraging compliant passenger behavior. Railway officials emphasized that the strategic vision has evolved toward a philosophy of 'inspection alongside awareness.' By combining strict regulatory enforcement with public educational efforts, the North Western Railway seeks to cultivate a culture of voluntary ticket purchasing, ultimately ensuring a more comfortable, safer, and better-organized journey for all legitimate rail commuters.
