A joyous Raksha Bandhan celebration turned into a devastating tragedy in Rajasthan's Dholpur district when four young siblings drowned in a deep ravine pond. The heartbreaking incident occurred on Sunday morning near Birja village under the Angai police station area in the Sarmathura sub-division. A 21-year-old youth slipped into deep water while taking a dip in the Kunda Talab located near the Hiraman Baba temple. Upon seeing their brother struggling for life in the deep water, his two real sisters and a cousin sister rushed to his rescue without hesitation. Unfortunately, due to the immense depth of the pond, all four siblings failed to return to the surface and lost their lives in the tragic accident.
Family Had Gathered for Religious Event on Raksha Bandhan
The ill-fated family had originally traveled from Moroli (Nathuapura) village, located under the Kotwali police station jurisdiction, to celebrate the festival of Raksha Bandhan with their relatives. On Saturday night around 11:00 PM, the four young family members headed to the local Hiraman Baba temple in Birja village to participate in an all-night religious gathering and Ramdhan bhajan event. The group comprised 21-year-old Ravi alias Bholu, his two elder sisters Manorama aged 22 and Boto aged 25, alongside their 18-year-old cousin sister Nisha alias Kallo. The siblings spent the entire night immersed in devotional singing alongside other villagers.
Tragic Turn of Events During Morning Bath
Following the conclusion of the overnight religious ceremony, around 6:00 AM on Sunday morning, a group of devotees and family members boarded a tractor-trolley to visit the nearby Kunda Talab, a natural pond situated within the local ravine terrain, to take a bath. While bathing along the edge, 21-year-old Ravi suddenly lost his balance and slipped into a treacherous deep patch of the pond. As he began to submerge and struggle, his sisters Manorama, Boto, and Nisha witnessed his distress from nearby. Driven by instinct and sisterly affection, all three sisters immediately leaped into the water in a desperate attempt to save him.
Villagers Saved Four Women During Massive Six-Hour Rescue
The sudden jump into deep water overwhelmed all four youths, leading to a dangerous crisis in which eight people in total began drowning in the pond. Alert villagers present at the scene acted swiftly, diving into the water and successfully pulling four women to safety. However, the four siblings sank deeper into the murky water before help could reach them. Upon receiving news of the disaster, team members from the Angai police station along with large numbers of local residents assembled at the site. Villagers managed to retrieve the bodies of the three sisters shortly after beginning search efforts. Retrieving Ravi's body proved far more challenging, requiring a collaborative six-hour rescue operation involving local divers and police personnel. His body was finally recovered from the pond at approximately 10:00 AM.
Post-Mortem Completed as Village Demands Relief
Following the recovery of all four bodies, local police dispatched them to the mortuary at the Sarmathura Community Health Centre. Post-mortem examinations were conducted by medical staff, after which the remains were handed over to the grief-stricken family for final rites. The tragic demise of four young family members on the festival of Raksha Bandhan has plunged both Moroli and Birja villages into deep mourning. In the aftermath of the catastrophe, local community members have appealed to the district administration to extend financial assistance and compensation to the bereaved family during this period of crisis.
