A major burglary took place on Saturday in a residential pocket situated behind Master Colony in Kekri, located within Rajasthan's Ajmer district. Unidentified thieves targeted an unoccupied residence, escaping with cash and gold and silver jewellery worth lakhs of rupees. At the time of the incident, the property owner and his family had traveled to their ancestral village to attend a social function. Taking advantage of the vacant premises, the burglars broke the lock on the front entry gate and subsequently forced open inner storage units inside the home.
Family Returned from Village Event to Find House Ransacked
The crime came to light late Saturday evening when the family returned home after concluding their visit to their native village of Devgaon. Upon reaching their residence in Kekri, they were shocked to see the main gate lock smashed open. Expecting the worst, they entered the premises and discovered their belongings strewn across multiple rooms. The intruders had forcefully broken open lockable almirahs and storage boxes before making off with the valuables. Realizing that substantial quantities of jewellery and cash were missing, the family immediately alerted the local police.
Detailed Inventory of Stolen Gold, Silver, and Cash
Following the break-in, home owner Bhagwan Singh, son of Laxman Singh, submitted a formal complaint at the police station detailing the stolen items. According to the police report, the stolen gold items include a rakhdi weighing approximately 2 tola, a seesphool weighing 2 tola, a madaliya weighing 0.5 tola, and two gold rings with a combined weight of 1 tola. The stolen silver items consist of two pairs of payjeb weighing around 200 grams and three pairs of bichhiya weighing roughly 30 grams. In addition to the ornaments, cash amounting to Rs 2.5 lakh kept inside the storage boxes was also taken, bringing the total estimated value of the stolen assets to several lakhs of rupees.
Police Launch Investigation and Review CCTV Footage
Upon receiving the report, a team from the City police station arrived at the scene to conduct a detailed inspection and gather forensic evidence. Officers also questioned neighbours and local residents to gather prospective leads. Based on the report submitted by Bhagwan Singh, a criminal case has been registered against unidentified suspects, and an investigation is underway. Despite the presence of neighbouring houses in close proximity, the burglars managed to execute the theft without raising suspicion. Authorities noted that daytime quietness in the locality likely helped the perpetrators operate undetected. City police are currently scanning CCTV camera footage from the surrounding area to identify suspects and track their movements.
