Udaipur police have solved a high-profile theft involving nearly one crore rupees at Naveen Jewellers located in the Panchwati area, arresting three members including the main kingpin of an interstate gang. Acting on leads provided by the accused, law enforcement teams recovered stolen property worth approximately sixty lakh rupees that had been hidden inside deep pits dug within the fields of the Chambal ravines. The recovered consignment includes various gold and silver ornaments along with precious jewellery items.
The case came to light when the proprietor of Naveen Jewellers filed a formal complaint at the Hathipole police station. According to the filed report, unidentified thieves broke into the establishment on the night of July 29 by ripping off the side shutter and smashing the glass door. The intruders decamped with diamonds worth around twenty-two lakh rupees, 390 grams of gold ornaments, 12 kilograms of silver jewellery and utensils, and 9.75 lakh rupees in cash, taking the total value of the stolen loot to roughly one crore rupees. Recognizing the gravity of the incident, a special team was constituted under the directives of the District Superintendent of Police.
Tracking hundreds of security cameras to nab culprits
The investigative team scrutinized footage from hundreds of CCTVs installed across Udaipur city. During the technical analysis, five suspects were spotted, and tracking their movement revealed that they fled from Udaipur toward Chittorgarh, Kota, Dholpur, and Agra. By meticulously reviewing nearly 200 CCTV clips, investigators successfully traced the syndicate. According to law enforcement, this is a highly cunning interstate gang that deliberately avoided using mobile phones during their criminal operations. The suspects continuously switched trains and buses by paying cash fares to ensure that authorities could not gather any digital or physical clues. Following the crime, the perpetrators routinely went into hiding within the rugged ravines of Chambal.
Mounting a targeted raid in the Chambal ravines, police successfully apprehended the gang's main kingpin Anand alias Kukdiya Verma, alongside Dhanpal alias Dandhu Verma and Guddu. All three arrested individuals hail from Agra district in Uttar Pradesh. Based on disclosures made during interrogation, police unearthed deep pits dug in agricultural fields and recovered stolen goods valued at approximately sixty lakh rupees.
Ongoing search for remaining absconding members
The three apprehended suspects are currently undergoing intense interrogation by authorities. Meanwhile, police teams are making persistent efforts to trace and arrest the remaining fugitive members of the gang, which includes an individual named Manoj alias Doctor Verma, while also working to recover the rest of the stolen merchandise.
