Acting upon the counsel of the assembly of learned scholars, a young maiden named Gayatri from the Gurjar community was brought from the surrounding forest. The Furor of Goddess Savitri and the Global Prohibition
Upon learning that Lord Brahma had entered into matrimony with another consort and initiated the auspicious fire ritual without her, Goddess Savitri was overcome with wrath. Rushing directly to the sacrificial grounds, she found another seated in her rightful position. Deeply aggrieved, she uttered a formidable curse declaring that Lord Brahma would never be worshipped anywhere across the entire earth, nor would any shrines or temples be erected in his honor. This decree sent shockwaves through the gathered assembly of deities, sages, and celestial beings.
A Divine Plea and the Sacred Exception for Pushkar
Fearing the destabilizing consequences of such an absolute ban on the creator of the universe, the assembled gods and sages pleaded with Goddess Savitri to soften her stance. Moving past her initial anger in response to their persistent prayers, she agreed to restrict the scope of the decree. While universal worship remained prohibited across the rest of the world, she granted an exclusive dispensation allowing his worship and the construction of his temple exclusively within the holy confines of Pushkar.
