The childhood pastimes of Lord Krishna remain deeply ingrained in the culture of Mathura and the wider Braj region. From the moment he arrived in Gokul, his divine activities became a source of wonder for the entire universe. Within the town of Gokul, there exists a unique tree within the premises of Nand Bhavan, which serves as a silent witness to the resting moments of child Krishna.
The Tumultuous Yamuna and Krishna's Journey
The dark night of the seventh day of Bhadrapada, characterized by torrential rain, deafening thunder, and the raging waters of the Yamuna, is remembered as the night Vasudeva carried infant Krishna from the Mathura prison to the safety of Gokul. According to tradition, the river Yamuna yearned to touch the feet of Lord Krishna. As Vasudeva stepped into the river, the waters began to rise, refusing to settle until they had successfully brushed against the feet of the divine child. After delivering Krishna safely to the house of Baba Nanda, Vasudeva returned to the prison with Yogamaya.
The Dwapara Yuga Witness: The Paras Tree
Inside the courtyard of Nand Bhavan stands a mysterious and ancient tree known as the 'Paras' tree, which dates back to the era of the Dwapara Yuga. More Mukut Parashar, the priest serving at the temple, explains the significance of this sacred tree. He notes that the tree has stood there since the time of Lord Krishna himself. Its appearance is distinct from that of a common peepal tree, adding to its rarity and legendary status. Aside from the Nand Bhavan, this specific type of tree is not found anywhere else.
A Center of Faith and Fulfillment
According to the temple priest, the Paras tree acts as a powerful focal point for devotees seeking divine intervention. Individuals who visit the site tie a thread to the branches of the tree with sincere intentions, and it is widely believed that these heartfelt prayers are granted. Once their wishes are fulfilled, devotees return to the temple to offer 'bhog' (food offerings) to the Lord, as an act of devotion and gratitude. This site continues to be a vibrant center of belief, where the presence of Bal Gopal is still deeply felt by those who seek him.
