Sports are increasingly becoming the first career choice for young people, with many putting in hard work across different disciplines to build a future in the game. That trend has brought good news for athletes in Chitrakoot, a pilgrim town, where the district sports stadium is being fitted with a modern basketball court. The district administration has begun construction work on the court, giving local youth a chance to play basketball in far better conditions than before.
An initiative driven by the district magistrate
The project is being carried out on the initiative of District Magistrate Pulkit Garg. On his direction, workers are laying special cushioned flooring and professional matting on the basketball court inside the district sports stadium. The entire exercise is being funded through the District Mineral Trust Fund at a cost of roughly Rs 10 lakh. Officials say that once the work is finished, players will get far better facilities, and the chances of getting hurt during a game will drop sharply. The move comes as the administration looks to put local development funds to direct use for young athletes in the district.
An inspection exposed the court's poor condition
District Magistrate Pulkit Garg said he personally visited the district sports stadium recently to review its condition. During that visit, players told him how badly damaged the basketball court had become. They explained that its cemented surface left them at constant risk of serious injury whenever they fell while playing. The problem, players said, had persisted for some time but had gone unaddressed until the inspection brought it to the district magistrate's attention. Taking the players' concerns seriously, the administration decided to launch repair work without delay.
National-standard flooring, and upgrades across other courts too
According to the district magistrate, the new flooring will match the quality seen on national and international-level sports grounds, giving players a safer, more professional space to train. The upgrade isn't limited to the basketball court alone. As part of the same drive, the stadium's gym flooring is being replaced along with the badminton and tennis courts, so athletes across multiple sports at the venue benefit from the improvements. Together, these upgrades are meant to give the stadium a more complete, professional look and encourage more young people in Chitrakoot to take up sport.
