The sports landscape of Uttar Pradesh is set to mark a major milestone as The Sports Hub (TSH) in Kanpur prepares to host a national-level table tennis tournament from August 16 to August 23. Organized under the auspices of the Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI), this event serves as the premier national ranking tournament for the 2026-27 competitive season. Bringing a national ranking competition of this scale back to the city after several years, the eight-day championship will gather approximately 3,000 participants, including players, coaches, technical officials, and state delegates from across India. Beyond offering sports enthusiasts in Kanpur an opportunity to watch the nation's top table tennis talent, the event is expected to significantly elevate the profile of sports infrastructure in the region.
World-Class Infrastructure and International Setup
To ensure the tournament adheres to international standards, extensive infrastructure arrangements are being finalized at the venue. The Sports Hub will feature 28 international-standard Roma tables manufactured by Stag Global. The facility is being equipped with specialized athletic flooring, custom-built arenas, standardized umpire tables, towel stands, and other modern amenities designed to support elite competition. A major highlight of the venue setup is a dedicated Show Court, specifically created to host marquee matches. This feature will allow spectators to watch high-stakes encounters between top-ranked national players from close quarters, providing an immersive experience for sports fans attending the event.
Official Appointments and Participant Logistics
The Table Tennis Federation of India has assigned key administrative roles to ensure smooth operations throughout the championship. N. Ganeshan from Kerala has been designated as the Competition Manager, while A.S. Kler from Delhi will serve as the chief Referee for the tournament. Comprehensive arrangements for accommodation and catering are being put in place to host the incoming athletes and officials. According to TSH CEO Praneet Agrawal, along with housing the 3,000 visiting athletes, trainers, and technical experts, the facility will also accommodate 1,000 young players from economically weaker sections (EWS) who currently receive training at TSH. Furthermore, regular members of TSH will remain present at the complex, creating a vibrant sporting atmosphere throughout the week-long event. Officials from the Uttar Pradesh Table Tennis Association have formally invited Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to grace the tournament and briefed him on the preparations underway.
