Nagaland is gearing up to participate in the nationwide celebrations of National Sports Day on August 27 with comprehensive youth and sporting programmes planned across 12 districts. Operating under the umbrella of the Khelo India Samwad 2026 and Yuva Connect initiatives, these events will take place across various educational institutions, bringing together students, local volunteers, sports enthusiasts, and community leadership to emphasize athletic participation and youth development.
Nationwide Scale and Prime Minister's Address
Although National Sports Day is traditionally commemorated on August 29 to honor the birth anniversary of legendary hockey figure Major Dhyan Chand, the official nationwide collective events for this year are scheduled for August 27. A key highlight of the national schedule includes a virtual address by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who will speak to over eight lakh young individuals gathered at approximately 1,600 locations across India. Immediately following the Prime Minister's speech, participating venues will host localized engagement sessions featuring discussions with Members of Parliament, Members of the Legislative Assembly, state ministers, and local civic authorities.
Reach Across Nagaland Districts and Institutions
In Nagaland, the celebration will extend into 20 higher educational colleges spread over 12 districts. During a press briefing in Kohima, State APS MyBharat Nagaland official Ruokuovikho Chale alongside MyBharat Kohima District Youth Officer Pradeep J outlined the scope of the program. They explained that these events are designed to offer young participants a structured platform to deliberate on how sports can act as a driver for individual personal growth, community cohesion, and the broader goal of building a Viksit Bharat.
In the capital city of Kohima, key activities will launch simultaneously at 10 am at two prominent academic centers: Don Bosco College and Kohima Science College, Jotsoma. These regional venues will facilitate direct dialogues between youth volunteers and established sporting figures, encouraging students to actively integrate physical health and sports into their daily lives.
Interactive Dialogues and Infrastructure Transformations
A major focal point of the Kohima events will be an interactive session between MY Bharat volunteers and renowned local athletes. Prominent sports personalities Limshito Yimchunger and Rovine Domeh are set to participate in these sessions, sharing their professional journeys, athletic challenges, and insights to inspire attendees to pursue sports with dedication.
District Youth Officer Pradeep J noted that discussions will also center on the major evolution of the Indian sporting landscape over the past 12 years. The sessions will highlight how strategic policy shifts and national investments under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's administration have modernized sports infrastructure across the country. Additionally, each venue will feature a dedicated 15-minute Youth Samvaad segment, giving young attendees an interactive space to voice their perspectives, share suggestions, and outline their aspirations for the future of sports in India.
