In the Shrimadhopur block of Rajasthan's Sikar district, the PM Shri Government Upper Primary School in Chheelawali is carving out a remarkable reputation by transforming raw rural talent into accomplished athletes. The school operates without a dedicated sports ground and lacks an appointed physical education instructor. The campus faced even greater infrastructural constraints after six dilapidated rooms were demolished last year to ensure student safety. However, the collective will of educators, enrolled students, and village residents has ensured that resource deficits do not curtail the aspirations of local girls.
Training on Panchayat Land Through Teacher Dedication
Catering to an enrollment of approximately 180 pupils, this upper primary institution has gradually built a reputation as a thriving grassroots nursery for kho-kho. Level-1 teacher Babulal Yadav balances core academic teaching with active coaching sessions, remaining on the field long after regular school hours conclude. Because the campus lacks its own sports facilities, female students run their rigorous daily drills on open land belonging to the local gram panchayat. Even in the absence of a professional trainer, this teacher's steadfast commitment has created sustained sporting opportunities for village girls.
Trailblazing Athletes on the National Stage
Around 30 girls from Chheelawali school have gone on to compete in national-level tournaments. Notably, former student Kanchan Samota advanced all the way to represent the Indian national women's kho-kho team. Sarita Yadav, also hailing from this locality, led the state contingent as captain of the Rajasthan team. Another player, Tulsi Kumari, made a strong impression at the national tier by clinching the prestigious Player of the Tournament title for her performance across the entire event. These breakthrough achievements have ignited sporting ambitions among numerous young girls across neighboring communities.
Championship Titles and Sustained Medal Records
The competitive record of the village squad remains impressive. In the state-level kho-kho events held during the previous administration's Rajiv Gandhi Rural Olympic Games, the combined Chheelawali-Mehroli team emerged as champions on both occasions. Furthermore, from the 31st to the 35th editions of the Sub-Junior and Junior National Kho-Kho Championships, players trained here consistently earned places on Rajasthan's squad and brought home medals. This string of podium finishes has placed an unassuming rural school firmly on Rajasthan's sporting map.
Balancing Academic Rigor with Athletic Pursuits
The school's success story extends beyond the playing boundary into classroom performance. For six consecutive years, students from the institution have cleared the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship examination, commonly known as NMMS. Owing to this rare balance of athletic achievement and consistent academic success, parents residing in adjoining gram panchayats are now actively seeking admission for their wards at this government school.
Community Philanthropy and Disciplined Infrastructure
A standardized dress code has been established across the campus for both teaching staff and students to instill daily discipline. Local community patrons and benefactors regularly step forward to fulfill vital infrastructural and material requirements, sponsoring essential items including school bags, warm sweaters, ties, and belts. Classroom environments have been fitted with basic furniture, functional lighting, and ceiling fans across the five active classrooms currently handling academic sessions. While peer students head home each evening, the young athletes of Chheelawali assemble on village common land to refine their kho-kho tactics, proving that sustained mentorship can overcome profound material handicaps.
