Bangles remain a central part of traditional adornment, adding vibrant charm and melody to festive attire. However, slipping them onto the wrists can often turn into an uncomfortable and frustrating ordeal, particularly when the size runs a little too small. When women attempt to force tight glass bangles past their knuckles at home, the fragile circles can easily shatter. Beyond the disappointment of losing a favorite ornament, broken glass carries a serious risk of deep cuts and painful injuries. Fortunately, a few straightforward household methods can make the entire process effortless and safe.
Using Oil or Rich Cream to Ease the Grip
Nitin Goyal, a shopkeeper selling bangles in the well-known Gali Imambada market of Firozabad, an area celebrated for its glass bangles, observes that women frequently encounter hurdles with tight-fitting pieces. In recent times, many prefer snugger, smaller sizes for aesthetic reasons, but getting them over the broadest part of the hand poses a challenge. Trying to force them across dry skin often results in sudden breakage. To counter this, Nitin Goyal suggests applying an oily cream or a light dab of oil across the palm and wrist before sliding the bangles on. The lubricated surface allows the bangles to glide smoothly without encountering rough friction, keeping the delicate glass intact.
The Plastic Bag Technique for Friction-Free Wear
Another reliable trick highlighted by Nitin Goyal involves using a thin polythene bag. By placing the plastic covering over the hand first, one creates a frictionless barrier. When the bangles are pushed over the plastic-wrapped hand, they slide effortlessly onto the wrist. Once the bangles are comfortably in place, the polythene bag can be gently pulled out from underneath. This method drastically reduces strain on the glass, virtually eliminating the danger of snapping and sparing the skin from painful grazes.
Selecting the Correct Size for Long-Term Safety
While hacks can assist with snug fittings, Nitin Goyal advises against choosing pieces that are excessively undersized. Bangle markets predominantly stock four to five standard dimensions, with sizes 22, 24, 26, and 28 being the most widespread. Opting for a size that matches the natural proportion of the wrist ensures comfort and prevents unnecessary strain. By knowing one's accurate measurement and relying on simple lubricants or plastic covers when needed, women can safely enjoy wearing their chosen designs without fear of cuts or cracks.
