By day he handles the weight of administrative duties, and by night his passion turns to the shooting range. That balance sums up the story of Captain Jitendra Singh, who recently put in a standout performance at the 24th Rajasthan State Shooting Championship in Jaipur. He claimed the silver medal in the 25 metre centre fire pistol event. This was no sudden stroke of luck, he had been preparing for a medal at this championship for several years.
The competition was organised by the Rajasthan Rifle Association under the aegis of the National Rifle Association of India. Shooters from various districts across the state took part. Amid such tough competition, Captain Jitendra Singh kept sharpening his performance with patience and precision. His distinctive shooting technique drew everyone's attention.
Office Chair and Firing Range, Side by Side
Captain Jitendra Singh currently serves as a project director at RIDCOR. In other words, he is an administrative officer carrying heavy managerial responsibilities every day. Despite that packed routine, he worked hard for this championship and succeeded. He says he has always kept a balance between his job and his sport, never letting his effort slip in either one.
His achievement also carries a larger message that sport is not limited to professional athletes alone. Anyone working in any field can reach great heights on the strength of passion and regular practice. It is this steady hard work and daily practice that has brought Captain Jitendra Singh to this point.
No Rest Even on Days Off, Straight to the Range
He explained that once his working day ends, he heads out for shooting practice. Even on his days off he does not spend time travelling or relaxing, choosing instead to practise his marksmanship. After wrapping up a full day's work, he still reaches the shooting court and practises late into the night. His dream is to win medals at the national and international level. He also constantly encourages young people to move ahead in sport. He believes sport keeps a person's mind strong at all times and never lets them tire.
A Childhood Dream, Returned to and Fulfilled
Captain Jitendra Singh said he had always wanted to become a shooting champion. But after landing his job, that dream slipped away for a while. Later he made up his mind to complete this unfinished goal no matter what. Now, by winning one of Rajasthan's top shooting championships, he has earned a place among the state's leading shooters.
