Unemployed and Searching for a Way Out
Kasam Khan lives in the Shikarpur area of Burhanpur district in Madhya Pradesh. He studied up to Class 8, but with little interest in continuing his education, he dropped out. After that, finding any steady work proved difficult. For a considerable period, he had no income and no clear path forward.
The change came from an unexpected direction. His mother-in-law suggested he consider selling vegetables. It sounded simple, but that one piece of advice set Kasam Khan on a course that would transform his life.
Putting ₹4,000 to Work
To get started, Kasam Khan borrowed ₹4,000 from his brothers and sisters and pooled it with a small amount of his own savings. With that combined sum, he launched his vegetable-selling business 19 years ago.
The early phase was genuinely hard. Daily earnings often fell short of what the household needed, and sustaining his family was a constant struggle. Yet Kasam Khan refused to walk away. He kept going through those difficult months, with his parents encouraging him and standing by him along the way.
Fresh Quality That Built a Loyal Customer Base
Kasam Khan set up his stall in one of the city's large vegetable markets and made a consistent practice of bringing only fresh, good-quality produce every day. That commitment to quality won over buyers. Customers started returning regularly, word spread, and his stall gained a reputation. Today, shoppers arrive from early morning right through to late evening.
Lakhs in Annual Income and Jobs for Others
Nearly two decades of consistent effort have produced concrete results. Kasam Khan now earns between 2 and 3 lakh rupees every year. His stall supports two employed workers alongside himself. Looking ahead, his stated goal is to create livelihoods for even more people as the business continues to grow.
