A daughter from an ordinary household in Rajasthan's Khairthal district has achieved what millions of young people across the country only dream of. Khyati Khandelwal has been selected as a Scientific Officer at the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, or BARC, one of the most prestigious and top-ranked research institutions in the country, lifting the name of her entire region across India. The moment her name appeared in the official selection list, celebrations broke out in Khairthal and at her home, with a steady stream of well-wishers arriving ever since to congratulate the family.

This success did not come overnight. Behind it lie years of dedication and round-the-clock effort. Khyati completed her early and school education at a private school in Khairthal itself, and she was a sharp student from childhood. She scored 91.17 percent in Class 10 and 89.60 percent in Class 12. She then chose physics, completing both her B.Sc and M.Sc in the subject from Delhi University. During her higher studies she also cleared tough exams like NET and GATE with good marks.

Three Years of Effort and a Ticket to Mumbai

Drawn deeply to nuclear physics, Khyati applied for the Scientific Officer post at BARC. She cleared the demanding interview for this important position on her very first attempt, on the strength of her firm grasp of the subject. Khyati shared that becoming a scientist at this institution had been her dream, and she prepared for it at home for nearly three years, studying for several hours every day with complete focus. Before she begins her regular duties, she will undergo one year of rigorous training, which will be held in Mumbai and is set to start from this coming August.

The Home and the Family's Role

Khyati's father, Indra Khandelwal, is a deed writer, while her mother, Sushma Khandelwal, is a homemaker. She has a brother, Yash Khandelwal, who is a doctor working in the medical field. Khyati credits her entire success to her family's unwavering trust, support and guidance. She said the constant mental and emotional backing from her grandfather Gulabchand, her grandmother, her maternal grandparents, her parents and her brother Dr Yash was always a source of inspiration for her.

Emotional Parents

Her father, Indra Khandelwal, said with deep emotion that his daughter's selection as a scientist felt like a dream come true for the whole family. Her mother, Sushma Khandelwal, also expressed great joy, noting that even while pitching in with small household chores, Khyati always kept her full attention on her studies. The result of her selfless day-and-night effort has now given the entire family and community a reason to rejoice. Khyati's achievement proves that with genuine dedication, relentless hard work and a clear goal, even those from small towns can reach the country's highest and most respected positions.

What this means for you

  • For students across India: The story shows that staying at home and putting in three years of steady, focused effort can be enough to crack a top institution like BARC on the first attempt.
  • In Khairthal, Rajasthan: A small-town daughter's success has encouraged local youngsters and their families to aim high and pursue careers in science.

  • Stay consistent: She studied for several hours every day at home for nearly three years, proving that consistency is the real strength.
  • Build a strong foundation: Strong marks in Class 10 and 12, a B.Sc and M.Sc in physics, and clearing NET and GATE gave her a solid base.
