Very few people can bring themselves to give up a well-paying job in a big city. Yet one man's story is doing the rounds on social media precisely because he did exactly that. He walked out of a Mumbai job that paid around Rs 1.5 lakh a month, returned to his hometown, and today earns close to Rs 4 lakh a month entirely on his own steam.
What makes the story stand out is that this income does not come from a single source. Part of it flows from his restaurant business and the rest from the money he put into investments, which is exactly why his post has caught so much attention.
Why he quit
Despite the healthy salary, city life had worn him down. Soaring living costs, a long daily commute and the constant rush left him with no real peace of mind. Eventually he decided to leave it all behind and head home. Before making the move, he set things up so that interest alone would put around Rs 1 lakh in his pocket every month.
Selling property, starting fresh
To turn the plan into reality, he sold a Mumbai property worth roughly Rs 3 crore. He then bought cheaper land in his own town and built a new house there. At first the people around him questioned the decision, but he kept his eyes on the future and stuck to his path. Once settled, he invested about Rs 50 lakh to open two restaurants, both of which are now available on the online food delivery platforms Zomato and Swiggy.
Day-to-day run by a team
A team of staff handles the daily running of the outlets, while the owner keeps an eye on the overall business. After covering every expense, the two restaurants leave him with savings of around Rs 3 lakh a month. This business has become his single biggest source of income.
Fixed deposits for steady monthly income
Alongside the business, he made sure his long-term financial security was in place too. He parked about Rs 1.5 crore in a fixed deposit (FD), which brings him roughly Rs 1 lakh a month in interest. That created a second, regular stream of income separate from the restaurant profits. Add the roughly Rs 3 lakh from the restaurants to the roughly Rs 1 lakh from the investment, and his total monthly earnings come to nearly Rs 4 lakh. In short, money placed in the right spot turned into a stable and dependable income for him.
