Planning a wedding, a party, or a family get-together just got simpler for organizers who want to reach people outside of the messaging ecosystem. Meta has introduced a major update to WhatsApp Events that allows users to share invitation links with individuals who do not even have an account on the platform.
The standout aspect of this rollout is that recipients without the app can open the link directly in a web browser to view event details and confirm their attendance through an RSVP. They are not required to download the application or set up an account to complete this process.
Dedicated Events Section in Settings
Alongside this capability, WhatsApp is introducing a dedicated space to manage gatherings efficiently. Located within the Settings menu, the Events Home section lets users track both their past and upcoming events, encompassing celebrations they created themselves as well as invitations received from others.
From this hub, hosts can design custom invitations, review guest responses, and send out timely reminders. Furthermore, WhatsApp is incorporating a plus-one option, enabling guests to indicate whether they will bring an additional person along to the gathering.
How to Invite Non-WhatsApp Users
Reaching out to people who stay off the platform for a party or event is now straightforward. The host simply needs to create the event within WhatsApp and attach a cover photo to it. Once configured, an invitation link is generated that can be forwarded through any communication channel.
The recipient opens this link in their web browser, checks the schedule and venue information, and responds regarding their attendance status. No installation or registration is needed on the recipient's end.
Privacy and Security Guardrails
WhatsApp has built privacy safeguards into the new feature. According to the company, guests whom the host does not recognize will not be able to view the host's phone number. Additionally, individuals accessing the invitation without a WhatsApp account will only see the exact event address after they have officially confirmed their presence via RSVP.
The company also clarified that personal messages and calls will remain protected by end-to-end encryption. The introduction of this event-sharing capability will not alter these underlying security standards in any way.
Rollout Timeline
WhatsApp has officially announced the update and plans to roll it out to all users over the coming weeks. This addition aims to streamline event planning for gatherings that include friends, family members, or acquaintances who do not use the messaging app.
