Police in Telangana have achieved a major breakthrough in combating illegal infant trafficking by rescuing a four-day-old baby boy in Hyderabad. Prompt intervention by the Balapur police team prevented the child from being sold in an illicit deal arranged shortly after his birth. Acting on precise information regarding the financial transaction, officers strategically deployed a unit, caught the suspect red-handed, and took a woman into custody while securing the infant safely.
Shifted Venue and Negotiated Deal Amount
The illicit arrangement originated in the Chandrayangutta neighborhood, where a resident named Waheeda Khatoon approached another woman, Mehrunnisa, residing in the Barkas area. Waheeda Khatoon offered to sell the newborn infant, initiating negotiations over the price. While the initial demand for the child was set at 6 lakh rupees, the amount was subsequently negotiated down to 5 lakh rupees. The parties originally planned to complete the exchange at Shaheen Nagar. However, the suspects later altered the location to the vicinity of JGR Function Hall located in Pahadishareef.
Timely Intervention and Strategic Police Trap
Upon receiving information about the impending sale, social worker Safia Mahi promptly notified the Balapur police. Working together, law enforcement officers and the social worker organized a discreet operation to catch those involved during the exchange. Police personnel established a perimeter around the JGR Function Hall area. Right as the exchange of money and handing over of the infant was about to occur, officers moved in. Police secured the four-day-old baby unharmed and arrested Waheeda Khatoon on the spot.
Origins of the Infant Post Delivery Discharge
Preliminary inquiries revealed that the baby's biological mother is a resident of Golconda. She had given birth to the child on Tuesday and was discharged on the very same day from a hospital located in Malakpet. Investigators are currently tracing the chain of events that led to the infant coming into Waheeda Khatoon's possession immediately after the hospital discharge. Police are probing whether the mother acted under coercion or if other intermediaries facilitated the transfer.
Investigation Into Organized Child Trafficking Racket
The Balapur police have initiated a detailed investigation to ascertain whether this incident is an isolated crime or part of a wider organized child trafficking syndicate. Investigators are scrutinizing the potential involvement of other accomplices, facilitators, and prospective buyers linked to the operation.
