Political activities have intensified in Agartala as Bharatiya Janata Party national general secretary of organisation BL Santosh is scheduled to visit Tripura on Tuesday. The high-level visit comes at a crucial juncture when discussions between the ruling party and the Tipra Motha Party regarding a potential electoral alliance for upcoming local body polls are reaching a decisive phase. Chief Minister Manik Saha informed reporters at the Assembly premises that Santosh is expected to chair a coordination committee meeting where the proposed seat-sharing framework could be given a final shape.

The Chief Minister noted that talks with regional partners are still progressing actively and expressed optimism about contesting the elections alongside allies. While official details regarding the exact distribution of seats are yet to be announced, the leadership anticipates that the upcoming discussions in the state will iron out remaining differences and formalize the electoral partnership.

Voting for 587 village committees under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council has been scheduled for September 28. Meanwhile, Tipra Motha Party supremo Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma has maintained a firm stand regarding preconditions for any electoral tie-up. In a social media statement, Debbarma asserted that his outfit would refuse to enter into any political arrangement unless tangible progress is made toward fulfilling the constitutional rights outlined in previous agreements.

The regional party had earlier signed a tripartite pact in 2022 with the central administration and the state government in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. That major agreement was structured to safeguard the socio-economic interests, culture, and comprehensive development of the indigenous communities residing in the region.
Demand For Written Assurance
Reiterating the party position, the Tipra Motha chief emphasized that without either full implementation or a concrete written guarantee concerning the promised safeguards, local leaders will refrain from forming an alliance for the forthcoming village committee elections, keeping the focus entirely on indigenous rights.
