The State Election Commission (SEC) convened a comprehensive virtual conference to thoroughly evaluate the security infrastructure and prevailing law-and-order situation ahead of the highly anticipated village committee polls under the autonomous tribal council.

State Election Commissioner PK Chakraborty and Tripura's in-charge Director General of Police GS Rao jointly presided over this crucial virtual meeting from the state capital. The session brought together key administrative and security heads from all eight districts of the state, including District Election Officers, District Magistrates, Collectors, and regional Superintendents of Police (SPs). The Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) and the Secretary of the State Election Commission also participated actively in the deliberations to align state-level security plans with local-level execution.
The primary agenda of this conference focused on evaluating pre-election preparedness, identifying potential security challenges in sensitive zones, and establishing seamless coordination protocols between civil administrative bodies and local police forces. The SEC issued strict, clear directives to the concerned authorities to deploy adequate security personnel across all designated polling stations, thereby facilitating a smooth and completely secure voting atmosphere for the public.

These detailed security assessments are specifically geared toward the upcoming elections for 587 village committees situated under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), which plays a pivotal role in governing the tribal areas of the state. The crucial voting for these grassroot bodies is scheduled to be held on September 28.
The formal election process kicked off with the commencement of nomination filings on September 1, with September 8 serving as the final deadline for candidates to submit their papers. SEC Secretary Anurag Sen confirmed that the official scrutiny of all submitted nomination forms was carried out across various blocks on September 9, paving the way for the final list of eligible contestants.
Nomination Statistics and Political Party Breakdown
A grand total of 10,958 nomination papers were originally filed by 10,936 aspiring candidates before the official deadline closed. Following the rigorous verification and scrutiny process conducted at the block level, the election body declared 10,889 nominations as valid for the upcoming polls.
The distribution of these valid nominations highlights intense competitive participation from various regional and national political factions. The Tipra Motha Party emerged with the largest share, boasting 4,361 valid candidates. The Communist Party of India (Marxist), or CPI(M), followed with 2,456 candidates. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured 1,971 valid nominations, while the Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura (IPFT) has 483 valid contestants. Furthermore, the Indian National Congress has fielded 465 candidates, the Communist Party of India (CPI) has 4 candidates, and a substantial pool of 1,149 candidates are contesting under the "Others" category, indicating a high level of independent and smaller party participation.
