There was a time when choosing his preferred career path cost Ram Kapoor heavily in the form of family friction and severed ties. Coming from a well-to-do background, his financial support from home was abruptly cut off while he was studying in the United States. Following this cutoff, Ram Kapoor had to manage his own living expenses and took up odd jobs to sustain himself. Ram Kapoor was born on September 1, 1973, in New Delhi, and his father Anil Kapoor was a well-known personality in the advertising industry.
Early Theater Passion and Struggles in America
Ram Kapoor grew up in a household centered around high expectations for a traditional education and a secure career path. However, his heart was inclined toward acting from an early age, and his involvement with theater during his school days cemented his ambition to pursue the craft professionally. In a past interview, he shared that when he decided to pursue acting, his father was entirely unhappy with the choice, preferring a conventional and safe profession instead. Despite the opposition, he remained steadfast and traveled to the United States to train in acting. His initial intention upon moving to America was to study filmmaking, but his exposure to the acting realm completely altered his trajectory.
Ten-Year Estrangement and Selling Used Cars
Difficulties mounted for Ram Kapoor in America when his father stopped sending financial remittances, wanting him to take full responsibility for his decisions and stand on his own feet. To survive and cover his expenses, he engaged in buying and selling second-hand cars in the United States, learning to navigate life independently. This stubborn pursuit of his passion created a massive rift with his father, leading to an estrangement that lasted for roughly ten years. Over time, however, as his father grew to respect his dedication and success, their relationship healed and improved significantly. Ram Kapoor maintained that he never wanted to leverage his father's established name or connections to secure an entry into the entertainment industry, preferring to earn recognition purely through his own merit.
Stardom Through Bade Achhe Lagte Hain
