It has been a whirlwind period for enthusiasts of Detective Comics lore following a string of major developments across various screens. Damon Lindelof's DCU series Lanterns recently concluded an impressive debut run, whereas production on Matt Reeves' The Batman Part II experienced an abrupt halt before Steven Soderbergh stepped in to assist with principal photography. Meanwhile, James Watkins' highly anticipated body-horror feature Clayface is heading to theaters this very week. Amidst this flurry of updates, news has emerged that The Penguin showrunner Lauren LeFranc is in active discussions to board a brand-new Poison Ivy focused television project currently in development at Warner Bros. and DC.
Stepping Into a Producer Role
According to reports, LeFranc is currently eyeing only a producer position on the series rather than acting as a writer or showrunner. The project had previously been placed on hold during Paramount and Warner Bros.' mega-merger, but it is officially back in active development. Specific details regarding the plot, exact setting, or casting decisions remain under wraps. While Lake Bell voices Poison Ivy in the animated series Harley Quinn, the character has otherwise been notably absent from recent DC Studios projects on screen.
Separating From The Batman Universe
It has also been confirmed that this upcoming series will not link to Matt Reeves' established The Batman continuity. That distinct corner remains separate from James Gunn's broader DC Universe, which encompasses projects like Superman, Supergirl, Lanterns, and Clayface. Poison Ivy, also known as Dr. Pamela Isley, first debuted in Batman #181 back in 1966 and has remained a staple of the rogues' gallery, though she has rarely received a major live-action spotlight. With recent projects revitalizing classic villains, a series overseen by LeFranc could finally give the iconic botanist her definitive on-screen showcase.
