A few words spoken over a phone call cost a young woman her life in Uttar Pradesh's Mahoba district. According to accounts, when her husband bluntly told her on the phone that he wanted a divorce, she could not bear it and, shortly afterward, hanged herself inside her room. The incident has plunged the entire family into grief and sent shockwaves through the neighbourhood.
The woman had been married only a short time. Her family says that ever since the wedding she was being mentally tormented on one pretext or another. In their complaint to the police, the relatives have accused the husband and his family of continuous harassment.
A Phone Argument Became the Final Trigger
On the day of the incident, the husband called the newlywed. During the conversation the two had a heated exchange, and in the middle of it the husband flatly said he no longer wished to live with her and wanted a divorce. His sudden and harsh words shattered her from within. Caught between social stigma and mental anguish, she took the drastic step almost immediately.
The Body Spotted Through the Window
When the room's door did not open for a long while, the family began to fear something was wrong. Peering in through the window, they saw the woman's body hanging from a noose. Hearing their cries, neighbours rushed over and helped break open the door, but by then it was too late and the woman had already stopped breathing.
Police and Forensic Team Reach the Spot
As soon as they were informed, local police and a team of forensic experts arrived at the scene. After examining the site closely, police brought the body down and sent it for a post-mortem.
Family Demands the Strictest Action
The woman's parental family is inconsolable and has demanded the harshest possible legal action against the husband. Police officials say the call detail records (CDR) of the deceased's phone are being examined, and a case will be registered based on the written complaint before further action is taken.
