A severe case of financial misconduct has come to light at the Punjab National Bank branch located in Pi sector of Greater Noida, where illicit withdrawals amounting to 10.24 crore rupees were orchestrated from customer deposits. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has apprehended two key individuals in connection with the crime, including a female office assistant stationed at the branch and a private associate. Both suspects, along with unidentified accomplices, allegedly collaborated to divert funds unlawfully out of genuine bank deposits.
Misuse of CBS User Credentials Over Three Years
Preliminary findings indicate that the arrested staff member, Deepanshi, exploited access by fraudulently using the Core Banking Solution (CBS) user credentials of other bank officials over a span of three years. By operating behind legitimate managerial identities within the internal banking system, the accused executed illicit transactions that steadily drained balances from ordinary savings accounts as well as customer fixed deposits (FD), generating an aggregate loss of approximately 10.24 crore rupees.
Customer Alert Sparked Initial Internal Probe
The fraudulent operation remained concealed until 16 September 2026, when an attentive account holder flagged an anomalous debit transaction on their personal account. The formal grievance over unauthorized deductions prompted an immediate inquiry, uncovering a systematic and deep-seated embezzlement racket operating from within the branch premises.
FIR Registered by Anti Corruption Branch and Transit Remand Secured
Taking cognisance of the systematic diversion, the Anti Corruption Branch of the CBI situated in Ghaziabad lodged an official First Information Report (FIR) on 29 October 2026. Following investigative progress, authorities approached the Special CBI Court in Pune to secure transit remand for the private suspect. The federal probe agency is currently analyzing the entire money trail to identify where the siphoned 10.24 crore rupees were directed and whether additional insiders facilitated the crime.
