On the festive occasion of Diwali, the Uttar Pradesh government rolled out a massive financial relief measure for households across the state. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath released the cooking gas cylinder refill subsidy for more than 1.89 crore eligible families registered under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY). The comprehensive welfare initiative involves a direct disbursement of 1,500 crore rupees straight into the bank accounts of beneficiaries.
Financial Support Reaches 1.89 Crore Households
Over 18900000 beneficiary households across Uttar Pradesh are receiving the direct benefit of this festive distribution. Designed to ease household expenditure during peak festival celebrations, the state administration ensured that the refill subsidy reached the maximum eligible base. During an official distribution event, a ceremonial subsidy cheque was presented to mark the rollout, initiating electronic transfers to registered accounts.
Direct Account Transfers for Eligible Consumers
Under the disbursement structure, eligible households receive over 700 rupees directly credited into their linked bank accounts to cover the cost of their cylinder refills. Both rural and urban beneficiaries covered under the social welfare energy scheme can utilize this assistance without intermediaries. The funds ensure that families can secure their holiday cooking fuel without financial strain.
Empowering Women and Promoting Clean Cooking Fuel
The subsidy initiative is squarely focused on women-headed domestic households, offering essential budget relief during the festive calendar. By removing financial friction around cylinder refills, the measure reinforces the wider public health push toward smoke-free kitchens and clean energy adoption throughout Uttar Pradesh.
