A court in Meerut has handed down the death penalty to a woman and her paramour in connection with a chilling murder plot that initially appeared to be a natural reptile bite. Additional District and Sessions Judge Jaiveer Singh Nagar delivered the capital punishment verdict against Ravita and Amardeep for killing Amit Kashyap. The victim hailed from Akbarpur Sadaat village and was discovered dead on a cot inside his residence on April 13 of last year, with a live snake deliberately left near his remains to mislead investigators into believing it was a fatal accident.
Unraveling the Truth Behind the Snakebite Facade
When the discovery was first made, grieving family members naturally assumed that the unfortunate man had succumbed to venomous fangs. However, local law enforcement grew suspicious and ordered a detailed autopsy, which completely altered the direction of the inquiry. The medical examination revealed distinct marks of violence around the victim's neck and nose, confirming that he was actually strangled to death before the reptile was introduced to the scene as a clever diversion. Subsequent police probes exposed a calculated conspiracy hatched by the victim's wife and her romantic partner.
References to Ancient Texts and Severe Judicial Stance
While pronouncing the quantum of sentence, Judge Jaiveer Singh Nagar drew parallels from ancient scriptures including the Mahabharata and Manusmriti to emphasize the gravity of the crime. The judge noted that while Savitri brought her husband back from the realm of death in mythological lore, the accused woman chose to extinguish her spouse's life instead. Highlighting that a wife is traditionally viewed as an ardhangini in Hindu culture, the bench remarked that murdering one's husband destroys the very fabric of societal trust. Quoting the Manusmriti, the court observed that such heinous acts committed out of illicit motives deserve zero clemency from society, ultimately ordering that Ravita and Amardeep be hanged until death.
Impact on the Family and Care of the Children
Following the pronouncement of the rigorous judgement, the relatives of the deceased expressed a sense of relief, with the victim's mother Munesh stating that her departed son's soul could finally rest in peace. Concurrently, recognizing the plight of the convicts' dependents, the court issued formal directives to the district magistrate to ensure proper care and upbringing for Ravita's three young children. This ruling stands as a stark reminder of judicial strictness in domestic homicide cases.
