Internal tensions surfaced within the Bharatiya Janata Party in Uttar Pradesh after former parliamentarian Dharmendra Kashyap posted a curt yet provocative message across his social media profile. By publishing a brief farewell phrase on his Facebook page, the senior leader sparked intense conjecture about whether his tenure with the saffron outfit has reached its conclusion. The online disclosure arrived right after the party released its latest roster of candidates for the upper house of Parliament. Within hours of the upload, party workers and local followers crowded outside his residential premises, while non-stop telephone inquiries followed from peers startled by the sudden rebellion.
Rajya Sabha Nominations Trigger Fresh Discord
Political circles widely interpret this move as direct resentment against the party hierarchy for denying him an entry into the upper house. Speculation is also rife that he might soon sever organizational ties with the ruling party to explore fresh avenues in other political corners. Although an official resignation has not yet been tendered, multiple reports indicate that he may be weighing high-level discussions with key figures in the Samajwadi Party or other prominent regional forces. The resulting friction poses an immediate challenge to the local leadership regarding retaining prominent OBC representatives in the district.
Efforts to Launch Daughter Kirti Kashyap
A native of Kandharapur, Dharmendra Kashyap has spent decades establishing his footprint across regional politics, and he had recently channeled his energy toward building a launching pad for his daughter, Kirti Kashyap. Ground reports suggest that the veteran politician had actively pursued an upper house nomination for her, lobbying persistently with influential party circles. When the final list surfaced without her name, he reportedly felt marginalized within the current hierarchy. Political observers believe that the inability to secure a parliamentary berth for his daughter served as the direct catalyst for his public protest.
A Political Journey Traversing BSP, SP, and BJP
The veteran leader's electoral graph shows multiple shifts across the political spectrum over the last two decades. In 2002, he achieved his maiden electoral success by securing a seat in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly under the Bahujan Samaj Party banner. Just a year later, in 2003, he switched allegiance to the Samajwadi Party and was rewarded with a ministerial portfolio as a minister of state. Later, in the 2009 general elections, he contested from the Aonla parliamentary constituency in Bareilly, narrowly losing to BJP nominee Maneka Gandhi.
Shortly after that narrow defeat, he formally joined the Bharatiya Janata Party. The party fielded him in subsequent national polls, and he emerged victorious in both the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha elections. However, his winning run ended in the 2024 national elections, when Samajwadi Party challenger Neeraj Maurya defeated him by a margin of 15,970 votes. Ever since that loss, he had been concentrating his efforts on carving out a viable electoral foothold for his daughter.
Backers Express Frustration Over Grassroots Neglect
Following the online post, discontent spilled over onto public platforms as party loyalists and booth-level functionaries rallied behind the former lawmaker. Several supporters openly faulted the state leadership for repeatedly favoring sitting ministers with legislative council or parliamentary berths while ignoring grassroots stalwarts. One supporter openly warned that if grassroots leaders continue to be sidelined, the party risks suffering heavy electoral setbacks across all nine assembly segments of Bareilly in the 2027 state elections.
Poetic Defiance and Announcement of Workers' Meeting
Addressing the brewing controversy through Urdu couplets, the former lawmaker remarked that those merely riding the ship often fail to fathom the depth of the ocean. He stated that his focus has constantly remained fixed upon his ultimate destination rather than intermediate milestones. He insisted that the decision regarding his subsequent roadmap will be taken collectively through an extensive meeting with his core support base.
Downplaying the immediate Rajya Sabha race, he claimed that winning an upper house ticket was never an obstacle, stating that nominations can be sought from whichever quarter he chooses. He voiced profound grievance over the lack of discipline within the party, noting,
"When individuals who openly opposed me are given front-row seats, distress is unavoidable."He stressed that during his 2024 electoral campaign, internal adversaries sabotaged his prospects without facing any disciplinary penalties. Under circumstances where the leadership overlooks such betrayals, saying goodbye becomes a natural conclusion. Pointing out that his base spans beyond a single constituency to the wider district and division, he concluded that a decisive announcement will follow his meeting with party workers.
