Road construction work is underway in Ghanghera village, which falls under the Mughalsarai assembly constituency of Chandauli district, but the project has already run into controversy. Around 10 to 12 labourers are currently engaged in building the road, yet local residents allege that the work is not being carried out according to the prescribed quality standards. Villagers say the bricks being used in the road are of poor quality and that overall negligence is visible throughout the construction.
Complaints go unanswered as work continues
Local resident Laxman Gond said he has repeatedly complained to the contractor and the officials concerned about the quality of the construction, but no action has been taken so far. He alleged that instead of top grade bricks, weaker and inferior bricks are being used in the road. Gond said villagers have raised this issue not once but several times, yet the construction continues in the same manner. He also raised a pointed question about how much cement is actually being mixed during the road's joining and construction work, saying there is no clear or transparent information available on this. According to him, there is a serious lack of transparency in the entire project, and quality norms are being ignored.
Allegation of soil being used to fill the road's edges
Suraj, a young resident of the same village, also questioned the construction work. He alleged that instead of putting proper material along the edges of the road, workers are simply filling the sides with soil. Suraj warned that if construction continues in this careless manner, the road will not survive long once the monsoon season arrives, and there will be a constant risk of the edges breaking away. He added that the quality of the bricks and other materials being used in the road does not appear satisfactory either. He demanded a technical examination of the construction material so that the actual ground reality can come to light.
Villagers demand accountability for public money
Villagers point out that the road is being built using government funds, money that comes from the taxes paid by the public, and argue that the work should therefore fully meet quality standards and prescribed norms. They say that if the construction is carried out negligently, the villagers themselves will bear the consequences, since the road could start deteriorating within a short period. For this reason, residents have demanded that the concerned department carry out an impartial inspection of the work, and that strict action be taken against those responsible if any violation of standards is found.
Inspection still pending, contractor silent
Despite the villagers' repeated allegations, construction work in Ghanghera has not stopped and continues without interruption. However, neither the contractor nor officials from the department concerned have responded to these allegations so far, leaving it unclear whether the work is actually being carried out in line with the prescribed technical standards. If the villagers' complaints are found to be true in any future inspection, it would raise serious questions about the quality of government construction projects. On the other hand, if an inspection finds the work meets the required standards, it would put the villagers' concerns to rest. For now, residents of the village are demanding a thorough quality check of the road construction and immediate intervention from the officials concerned, so that no major problem arises with this road in the future.
