A disturbing case of a man allegedly hiding his identity to marry two Hindu women and then holding them captive has surfaced in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. Police from the Panki police station raided the Kamdagiri Apartment in Ratanpur and arrested a man who allegedly posed as a Hindu, married two women, and later confined both of them along with a child inside the flat. The case came to light after the Hindu organisation Bajrang Dal alerted the police, who rushed to the spot and acted swiftly.
How the first marriage was arranged
According to police, the accused belongs to the Muslim community but had allegedly hidden his real identity by changing his name. Using this changed name, he married the first victim following Hindu rituals. After the wedding, he took her with him to Lucknow, where the two lived for some time. Sometime later, the victim discovered his real religious identity, a revelation that left her shattered. Police say that once the truth came out, the accused began forcing her to convert her religion. Whenever she resisted, she was allegedly beaten mercilessly and subjected to both mental and physical torture. This continued for a prolonged period while she endured it in silence.
A second woman falls into the trap
The accused eventually returned to Kanpur along with the victim and their child. Once back, he allegedly concealed his identity once again and lured a second Hindu woman into the same web of deception. He is accused of marrying her as well, after which he began forcibly confining both women and the child inside the Kamdagiri Apartment. Neither woman was allowed to step outside the flat or contact anyone, and their condition reportedly kept worsening over time.
Bajrang Dal tip leads to police raid
When word of the situation reached the Hindu organisation Bajrang Dal, its members promptly informed the police. Acting on the tip, the Panki police station swiftly raided the Kamdagiri Apartment. During the raid, officers safely recovered the two women held hostage along with the child and took the accused into custody.
What police and Bajrang Dal said
ACP Panki, Amit Chaurasia, said on the case:
We received information through the Hindu organisation and the victim that a person was holding women hostage by hiding his identity. Police reached the spot and rescued the women, and the accused has been taken into custody. Based on the first woman's statement, an investigation has been launched under sections related to pressure for religious conversion, domestic violence and fraud. The second woman is also being questioned, and strict action will be taken after the investigation.
Naresh Tomar, Mahanagar Prabhari of Bajrang Dal, reacted sharply to the incident:
This is directly a case of love jihad and cruelty against our sisters. The accused hid his identity for 8 years, beat the victim and then trapped another Hindu daughter. Bajrang Dal will not tolerate this kind of mentality. We got the sisters freed by informing the police. We demand the strictest possible punishment for the accused.
What happens next
Police are currently carrying out intensive questioning of the accused husband and the second woman. Officials say all facts will be strictly verified only once the investigation is complete, but the incident has once again raised serious questions about marriages contracted by hiding one's identity and about networks pushing forced religious conversion. Based on the first victim's statement, a case has been registered under provisions covering pressure to convert, domestic violence and fraud, while questioning of the second woman continues so that the full picture behind the case can be established.
