Police in Ballia district of Uttar Pradesh have cracked the high-profile murder case of clinic operator Kanchan Bharti, who was brutally killed inside her establishment near the Gadwar bend in Nagra. Law enforcement officials apprehended the victim's nephew, identified as 26-year-old Omkareshwar alias Bittu, who had been absconding since the night of the crime. The accused, a resident of Khari village within the Nagra police station limits, confessed to the killing during custodial interrogation. Following his disclosure, officers recovered the iron rod used as the murder weapon, along with his motorcycle and mobile phone.
Chronology of the Altercation at the Nagra Clinic
According to official details provided by the police, the incident took place on the night of August 11 inside Kanchan Bharti's clinic situated near the Gadwar bend. Earlier that evening, Omkareshwar had personally dropped his aunt off at the clinic on his motorcycle. However, upon returning to the premises a short while later, he spotted Kanchan Bharti conversing with another individual inside one of the rooms. This observation triggered a heated verbal confrontation between the aunt and nephew.
As the argument escalated rapidly, an enraged Omkareshwar grabbed a heavy iron pipe present at the scene and repeatedly struck Kanchan Bharti on the head. The severe blunt force trauma inflicted on her head proved fatal, causing her to collapse instantly and die from excessive bleeding and traumatic injury before any medical aid could be rendered. Immediately after committing the assault, the accused fled the crime scene on his motorcycle to evade law enforcement.
Road Accident During Escape and Arrest in Bushes
While fleeing the area, Omkareshwar's motorcycle collided with an unidentified pickup vehicle on the road. The impact of the crash left the accused injured. Desperate to avoid police detection while nursing his injuries, he abandoned his damaged two-wheeler along the roadside and sought refuge inside dense bushes located near Jhari Baba Math.
Following the discovery of the homicide, Nagra police registered a case and deployed multiple investigative teams to track down the suspect named in the initial complaint. The breakthrough came when a police informant provided a vital tip-off, revealing that an abandoned motorcycle was spotted near Jhari Baba Math and that an injured individual was hiding in the surrounding vegetation. Acting swiftly on the intel, a police team cordoned off the area and successfully apprehended Omkareshwar from his hiding spot.
Forensic Evidence Recovery and Legal Proceedings
During post-arrest questioning, Omkareshwar admitted to his direct involvement in the fatal attack and led officers to the location where he had discarded the assault weapon. Acting on his confession, police retrieved the iron rod utilized in the murder, while officially seizing the motorcycle and his mobile phone as physical evidence to support the prosecution's case.
Nagra police confirmed that Case Crime No. 156/2026 has been registered at Nagra police station regarding the incident. The accused has been charged under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for murder. After completing mandatory medical examinations, interrogation protocols, and procedural paperwork, law enforcement authorities produced Omkareshwar alias Bittu before the court for judicial remand.
