As the entire nation celebrated Independence Day on August 15 under the ongoing 'Har Ghar Tiranga' initiative, an extraordinary display of patriotism unfolded in the Saharanpur district of Uttar Pradesh. Local residents and youth staged a massive Tiranga Yatra, carrying a 3280-foot (approximately 1-kilometer) long national flag across a 10-kilometer stretch. The awe-inspiring procession drew widespread admiration from onlookers as patriotic fervor swept through the entire city route.
A 1-Kilometer National Flag Specially Sourced from Gujarat
The centerpiece of this grand procession was the immense 3280-foot tricolor, which was custom-crafted and brought specifically from Gujarat for the occasion. Explaining the origins of the project, Sandeep Chaudhary, husband of Tharauli village's Gram Pradhan Rita Chaudhary, shared that the initiative stemmed from a desire to honor national heroes in an unmatched fashion. As Sandeep Chaudhary noted, "Our Gram Pradhan Rita Chaudhary gave the idea that we should remember the brave martyrs of the country in a different and special way on August 15." He added that the campaign drew primary inspiration from the nationwide 'Har Ghar Tiranga' movement spearheaded by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
250 Youths Carry the Tricolor Across a 10-Kilometer City Route
To support the weight and length of the 1-kilometer flag, a dedicated cohort of roughly 200 to 250 youths stepped forward, holding the tricolor on their hands and shoulders throughout the journey. The 10-kilometer march commenced at Hasanpur Chowk (Chungi) in Saharanpur and traversed several prominent city landmarks. Moving systematically through Ghantaghar, the Qutubsher police station area, and the Sugar Mill locality, the rally finally culminated at the Manakmau Badi Nahar destination.
Flower Showers and Active Participation from Local Police
Along the entire 10-kilometer corridor, citizens greeted the procession with intense enthusiasm. Residents gathered on balconies, rooftops, and street corners to shower flower petals on the moving tricolor and offered sweets to the marching participants. Sandeep Chaudhary highlighted that the local police administration played a crucial role in ensuring the event's success. Beyond managing traffic flow, several police officers actively joined the procession, physically holding sections of the giant flag to encourage the young participants.
