A coordinated anti-narcotics crackdown unfolded in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, during the early hours of November 1, targeting illicit drug networks operating in the city. The operation targeted the Kanjadpurwa locality under Kidwai Nagar police station limits around 5:00 AM, led directly by DCP South Deependra Nath Choudhary. The sudden arrival of a large police contingent triggered substantial commotion in the neighbourhood, as security personnel sealed off the perimeter to initiate a house-to-house search. Backed by aerial surveillance via drone cameras, the multi-hour operation resulted in the arrest of three suspects and the recovery of 11 kilograms of ganja.
Mobilisation Across Four Police Stations with 135 Officers
Kanjadpurwa has long been known as a prominent distribution hub for various illicit narcotics, including smack, ganja, and whitener. Instances have surfaced in the past involving elderly residents, young men, women, and even school-going children being used to transport and peddle drugs concealed inside school bags. To dismantle this network ahead of the Diwali festival, law enforcement devised a structured enforcement drive.
The raid combined personnel and resources from four nearby police stations: Kidwai Nagar, Babupurwa, Juhi, and Govind Nagar. Approximately 135 personnel moved into the sector at dawn, blocking multiple entry and exit points simultaneously to prevent potential suspects from fleeing through narrow alleys. DCP South Deependra Nath Choudhary was physically present on the ground to oversee tactical movements across every sector of the neighbourhood.
Airborne Drone Surveillance and Targeted Ground Searches
Technology played a central role in sealing off escape routes. High-resolution drone cameras flew above the congested settlements, scanning rooftops, lanes, and open grounds for suspicious movements and concealed caches. Guided by real-time aerial feeds, dedicated search teams entered pre-identified houses and locations.
The unexpected sweep created widespread panic across the area as officers methodically inspected suspicious properties. Teams combed through individual residences, focusing on individuals suspected of managing supply logistics and street-level distribution points within the settlement.
Seizure of 11 Kilograms of Cannabis and Three Apprehensions
The surveillance operation produced immediate results when three individuals spotted the airborne drone and attempted to flee from the scene. Ground teams swiftly intercepted and apprehended them before they could escape through the perimeter. A search yielded 11 kilograms of packaged cannabis in their possession.
Authorities identified the arrested individuals as Arman, Sagar, and a woman named Anjali. Interrogators are questioning all three to establish the origin of the contraband, the transit routes utilized to smuggle it into the city, and the local customer bases and dealers scheduled to receive shipments. Investigators are also compiling records on other facilitators associated with this trade.
Investigating Broader Supply Chains and Organised Linkages
Law enforcement officials emphasized that the scope of this drive extends far beyond the physical seizure of 11 kg of cannabis and three arrests. Interrogations aim to expose the entire procurement process, source hubs, transport links, and financiers underpinning the local network. Investigators are examining whether the trade in Kanjadpurwa operated through decentralized local dealers or functioned as a cog in a broader, organised narcotics syndicate.
DCP South Deependra Nath Choudhary stated that targeted operations against illegal narcotics trafficking will continue uninterrupted across Kanpur South. The joint deployment of 135 personnel across four police jurisdictions, combined with real-time drone reconnaissance, successfully broke through a major distribution cluster. Police officials noted that further arrests are expected as questioning yields additional names linked to the syndicate.
