A distressing case involving the forced religious conversion and coercion into marriage has emerged in the Moradabad district of Uttar Pradesh. Following a formal complaint, the local Majhola police station took swift action, resulting in the arrest of a Muslim couple. The Hindu victim has alleged that the accused, Salauddin and his wife Mehnaz, invited her to their residence under false pretenses to pressure her into changing her faith and entering into a marriage. According to the victim's account, when she resisted these demands, she was held captive and subjected to sexual assault. Police have registered an official case and are actively investigating the incident.
Exploitation of long-standing family ties
In her statement to the police, the victim, a resident of the Majhola police station area, detailed that her association with the family of Sultan Salauddin spanned approximately three years. Due to these established familial ties, both families frequently visited each other's homes and celebrated festivals together. The victim stated that she was unaware of Sultan Salauddin's true intentions or his inappropriate behavior toward her until the incident occurred. On February 6, 2026, the victim was invited to the residence by Sultan Salauddin's wife, Mehnaz Begum. Upon her arrival, she discovered that Sultan Salauddin, a maulvi, and two other unidentified individuals were already present. The group attempted to force her to convert her religion and enter into a marriage against her will. The victim reported that upon refusing, she was confined for several days, during which time she was subjected to lewd acts, harassment, and severe threats.
Legal action following threats to the victim
After a desperate effort, the victim managed to escape from the premises. Even after her escape, the accused allegedly threatened her with death if she attempted to meet them again or pursued the matter. Acting on the victim's complaint, the local police registered an FIR and took the accused husband and wife into custody. SP City Ranvijay Singh confirmed that the case has been registered against Sultan Salauddin and his wife, Mehnaz, and their arrest has been formalized. He further indicated that efforts are underway to apprehend the maulvi and the other suspects involved, promising that they will face legal consequences shortly. The victim's complaint explicitly outlines charges of forced conversion, attempted forced marriage, illegal confinement, and sexual assault.
