In a significant political development in Uttar Pradesh, Samajwadi Party candidate Kanti Singh has secured a comprehensive victory in the Lucknow Graduates constituency of the state legislative council. She defeated the Bharatiya Janata Party nominee Avaneesh Kumar by a substantial margin of more than 17,000 votes, wresting a crucial constituency in the state capital.
Breakdown of Election Results
According to the official tally, Kanti Singh polled a total of 56,905 votes. Her nearest rival, Avaneesh Kumar of the Bharatiya Janata Party, secured 39,778 votes. Singh maintained a consistent advantage throughout the counting rounds, ultimately sealing her victory with an official lead of 17,127 votes over the ruling party candidate.
Mixed Outcomes Across Constituencies
While the Bharatiya Janata Party suffered a reverse in the Lucknow Graduates seat, the party managed to retain its hold over the Lucknow Teachers constituency. Nevertheless, losing the graduates seat, which primarily represents educated and young professionals in the capital region, marks a major milestone for the opposition alliance ahead of forthcoming electoral contests.
