A severe road accident caused widespread panic in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, late on the night of September 1, when an over-speeding car crashed into a roadside tree and knocked over an LPG supply line. The impact occurred at around 10:45 PM in the Awas Vikas Colony area. The car hit the tree with such violent force that it uprooted it completely and dragged it a short distance before plowing straight into the residential gas pipeline, fracturing it instantly.
Late-Night Panic in Awas Vikas Colony
Following the collision, liquefied petroleum gas began spewing out of the broken pipeline under heavy pressure. Within minutes, a pungent smell of gas engulfed Awas Vikas Colony and neighbouring residential quarters. Terrified by the immediate risk of a catastrophic fire or explosion, residents rushed out of their homes into the open streets. Recognizing the severity of the danger, local residents promptly contacted both the police and emergency technicians from the gas utility provider.
Prompt Emergency Response Averts Major Catastrophe
Responding quickly to the distress calls, technical personnel from the gas company and local police officers arrived at the scene. Recognizing the immediate risk, technicians shut down the primary control valve for the residential pipeline network. Shutting off the main supply successfully halted the pressurized gas leak, bringing the dangerous situation under control. Engineers subsequently initiated repair work to replace the ruptured section of the pipe. Officials noted that a substantial volume of gas had escaped into the air before the valve was closed, and only the quick response prevented a major disaster.
CCTV Footage Captures High-Speed Crash
The entire incident was recorded on a nearby surveillance camera. The CCTV footage displays the high-speed vehicle losing control on the roadway, slamming violently into the tree, and subsequently careening into the gas pipe infrastructure. Witnesses present at the location reported that three young men were inside the car at the time of the collision, and preliminary local accounts suggest they may have been driving under the influence of alcohol.
Police Seize Vehicle and Detain Suspect
Immediately after the impact, two of the vehicle's occupants fled the scene on foot, taking advantage of the chaotic situation. However, alert neighborhood residents managed to apprehend the third occupant before he could escape and turned him over to the responding police officers. Law enforcement officials have impounded the damaged car and taken the detained youth into custody for questioning, while active efforts remain underway to trace and apprehend the two fleeing suspects.
